Kool-Aid Pickles 1/2 gallon jar of dill pickles 1 pkg. of Cherry Kool-Aid 1/2 pound of sugar I poured pickles and juice into a large bowl. I put 4 cups of water, 1/2 pound of sugar and Cherry Kool-Aid into empty pickle jar. I then shook it until all sugar and Kool-aid was dissolved. I added back the "whole" pickles. I, too, thought they'd look better. We'll see. The kids ate 2 pickles so there was a bit of room left in jar. I added back just enough pickle juice to make sure jar was full. Then I put it into fridge. I shook it everyday to make sure the pickles that were touching got into the Kool-Aid soak. About 1/2 way into the week I thought the pickles weren't looking as red as I'd like and I added a little bit of red food color. Memorial Day Weekend unveiling of the pickles... Everyone thought it was a very funny idea, but had their noses crinkled as I opened the jar. After much coaxing I got my first victim... errr... person to try one. We all took one bite of one pickle. They said, "It's not bad... maybe even good... let me have a few more bites." Each person forked out a pickle of their own and ate it. Everyone was glad they tried it and thought it was good. Several family members ate a few more and the next day without offering... they were retrieving the jar from the fridge and getting their own pickles. The whole jar was eaten by today. My mother was the only one to really have a strong reaction. She was napping when we got out the Cherry Kool-Aid pickles. So, I brought her one after her nap and she recoiled as if I was trying to feed her something the dog had just squirted out. She finally grilled me on what exactly I was holding and then took a bite and finished it. She said it was very good and that anyone who likes sweet pickles would really like them. Lynne |

Thanks for reporting back. It sounds like you had fun making and
sharing the Kool-Aid pickles. I'm sure your family will talk about the Kool-Aid pickles from now on. Maybe it will be a new Memorial Day tradition. You can make red and blue pickles. Serve them on a white plate. Tara |
