Seems to me she is no more talented than the wonderful cooks on this
forum. Hey I enjoy her show, I'm just wondering how she landed the gig. |

A new female food server was a real go-getter, hoping to eventually make her way up the corporate ladder to the exalted position of shift manager. In addition to truly working hard, she also flirted outrageously with the married General Manager. One day the restaurant was having one of those precious few minutes when there were actually no customers in the building, so the GM used that time to call us all together and make an announcement. Basically he complimented Miss Flirt on her excellent work performance and asked her if she would consider taking the newly created position of Head Waitress. Flirt was extremely happy, clapping hands and jumping up and down. Then she turned briefly to the rest of the servers and shot us a well-crafted "eat shit" look before turning back to Mr. GM and trilling ecstatically that she'd love the position and would be the best Head Waitress he'd ever seen. GM looked gravely at her for a moment, then nodded and said, "OK, you're it. You can pick up your kneepads in the office." I'll give her credit, as disappointed as she was when she finally realized the joke, she *did* laugh. Later on, she got back at him, but that's another story. ~~ Shelly ~~ |

![]() "The Space Boss" wrote > I for one would like to hear "part 2" of this story!!! > Fine, but it's not funny or pretty: She and married Manager started an affair that lasted for a couple of months, then fizzled. Miss Flirt then filed a complaint with the District Manager stating that after the affair ended she was being treated unfairly by the General Manager. In reality, he would no longer allow her to stay on the clock while he and she snuck off to her place to Kanoodle, nor would he fire any more employees due to personal conflicts with Flirt. That really did happen, as I was the first to go - Flirt lived in the apartment above me and she didn't want me telling other employees about the amount of time she and he were spending up there together. He did feel guilty about that, though, and asked a manager of another restaurant to take me on there, so I didn't lose any work days and actually got a slightly higher pay there. Finally, he refused to allow her to work shifts with him, so she had to work the day shift under another manager whom Flirt didn't like (and the feeling was returned with interest by most or all of the other employees). At the same time Flirt filed the complaint with the Regional office, she sent Mr. Manager's wife a few cards with notes and photos to let the Mrs. know exactly what her husband had been up to. By the time it was over, both of them got fired, and his wife left him and took his daughter with her. Then the day shift manager approached me and asked if I'd like my old job back. I politely declined. About three years after that, I saw Flirt's name in our local newspaper. She was suing a local manufacturing company because she'd had another affair with another married man and after *that* affair ended, he transferred her to a different department with the same hours, wages, and benefits; but she was still fuming over being 'mistreated' and insisting that a large financial settlement would help her feel better. I heard she got an undisclosed amount of money, couldn't seem to find another job, and eventually left the state. She's probably a little too old nowadays to be sleeping her way to the top, or at least I hope so! ~~ Shelly ~~ |

My wife and I really enjoy her show, but the other day we were watching it and she was sauteeing some vegetables in an obviously non- stick pan, and she was SCRAPING this teflon pan with metal spatulas and using a metal whisk to blend things in it. Now I don't know about you, but I don't let any metal utensils get anywhere NEAR my teflon pans............ heck, that stuff can scrape right off into the food. |

The superior non-stick coatings like Excalibur are pretty much bullet proof and don't flake off like the cheaper brands, but they are still prone to scratching by metal utensils. The fact is, those scratches may not flake, but they do become an impediment to the teflon slick cooking surface you are paying good money for, so why mar that surface unnecessarily. Bottom line, use wood or plastic utensils regardless of what they claim. They just say that because they want you to wear out that non-stick surface sooner so you'll have to buy a new one. nb |

I don't think that companies which make expensive high quality non stick surface pans really want people to wreck them in order to sell more. Given the cost of the those pans, not too many people are interested in putting out the big bucks to replace something that have failed them in the past. |

They promised her the show if she would stop talking to them. ********* And also: Don't forget, Top Chef starts a new round, week after next, I think. Next week on Bravo, they're having a "cook-off" among the Top Chef contenders from the first two seasons of the show. That should be ... fun ;-) And who is it again, that Padma is married to? Gosh, I don't like her at all. N. |

If that really counts for anything. She has authored an award winning cookbook (Easy Exotic, 1999) and hosted several cooking series Melting Pot (Food Network, 2001) and Planet Food (BBC, Food Network & Discovery). |

Networks (in the US, anyway) now know that "mediocre" is the way to go to get a big fanbase. Look at American Idol. No one talented or good looking ever wins. People are put-off by talented, good-looking people. Look at the disdain people have for a Lindsay Lohan or an Angelina Jolie (all of it is based on envy and jealousy- nevertheless, it is there). Rachel Ray has a lot of personality, but she's sloppy-looking and not really a good chef. This makes her a demographic home run. You will always have a lot more Americans identifying with (and liking) her than a hot, thin chick who actually studied haute cuisine. |
