"Everything" is overgeneralizing, of course. But the higher real
estate and labor costs seep into many, many products.

After I wrote that, I saw the gas prices here -- $3.75 for regular.
(it's $3.39 at the ARco in san Mateo, less across the bridge). Then,
I saw the prices for produce. The quality of California's is far
superior, and cheaper for the most part.
I am not sure when (or why) gas prices here surpassed those in CA, but
it must have been since last summer when I was here last.

Sometimes you feel like one, sometimes you don't. I've had so many
big cheap burritos in CA they're no longer a novelty.

Consumer Reports magazine found that Subway wasn't a good value. I
agree with that. Most of their "meats" are turkey based, they skimp on
all the ingredients, they're overpriced and the prices keep going up,
their "fresh-baked" bread is usually stale. and even their franchisees
are complaining about the rules they keep forcing on them. I don't
even go there for their specials anymore.

When they first started out, they were called "Pete's Subs" and they
were good. Now they're just a bunch of millionaires trying to cut
costs to make themselves even richer at the expense of their customers
and the suckers who bought into the company.

Crap is right.

I never saw anyone claim it was "healthier" but as the name suggests it
is supposed to be "tastier"

Well, we have it in Italy... it's called simply Big Tasty, it is
bigger than Big Mac, and it is the best burger McDonald's can offer,
really...

The taste is very european, so, this is why probably it is the
preferred by many people here.
