I saw a McD TV commercial for a chicken BLT sandwich, some connection with
the new Shrek flick. I wonder how they got away with not offering tomato for so long?! They could even dress up a hamburger the same way and have a "regular burger" kinda/sorta how Wendy's or Burger king has been doing it for ages. It couldn't be a quality control issue, could it? They've been cooking up crap for decades. Andy |

In fact, I know I had the "Hamburger Royale" back in the 90's (In Europe, admittedly) with tomato slices. I forget what the current name is but I've had it on occasion. And McDonalds fries still rock when they're hot and crispy. Unlike the horrid flavorless things Burger King passes off as fries. My ideal fast food meal would be a Junior Whopper with cheese from BK and a small bag of McDonalds fries. |

McD sells the quarter pounder with onion and pickle or the big mac with lettuce, onion and pickle. Maybe an average tomato slice is larger than the meat patty!? All I remember about their fries was when they cooled off they were inedible. But that's probably been covered to death in another thread. Andy |

Unfortunately, unlike the spartan dab of kethup and mustard they barely apply (mcd invented cheap), they drowned the damn thing in mayo, to the point where it was squeezing out of the bun and all over your hands and overwhelmed the flavor. McD hasn't made anthing good to eat in 40 yrs. nb |

Currently, McDonald's has a Fresh-n-Tasty burger. Basically, a wannabe Whopper. Back in the day... there was a McDLT, where 'the hot stays hot and the cool stays cool.' Basically the meat and bottom bun on one side of the package, while the top bun, lettuce, and tomato (don't remember what condiments were used) were on the other side of the package. I want to say that this was in the late 80's though, and not the 90's. The reason I mention that this may not be valid, is that there's a huge local rumor that has persisted for a long time in this area (upper East Tennessee) is a test market for McDs. There were items introduced here that didn't make it anywhere else. I don't know how much faith I put into this story. So, if it sounds like I'm farting instead of talking, I'm really not trying to talk out my ass. -Glasswalker- |

They were sold in selected MickeyD's in the northeast, but no longer available where I live. They also had a double cheesburger L.T. for $1.29 a few years ago. For a chain burger joint, they were pretty good, and I'd go to McD's more often if they were still on their dollar menu. I think the quality of the product depends on having a good manager in the store. |

If I eat there, I get 2 B&Ts, no mayo, no ketchup, extra pickle. I take off the lettuce and tomato and eat those first. Then I take two napkins, and use them to smash each patty against the bottom buns, which saturate with grease, and the bottom buns and napkins go it the trash. Thing is, it's cheap, and I KNOW I'm slumming. I'm not saying it's good, just cheap. Tell you, McD's food is more freshly prepared than most of the cheaper sit down chain restaurants, where nearly everything is pre-cooked, and a damned sight better than twelve grilled hot dogs. > > You are a bigga ****tard, > Bluto© --Bryan http://myspace.com/TheBonobos |

I agree though, McDonalds has had at least one sandwich with tomato on it for years. Back in the early 80's (I think), they had the McDLT (or something like that) where the sandwich was served in a special container with the cold ingredients separate from the rest of the sandwich and they used to advertise it as "keep the cold food cold and the hot food hot" or something to that effect. |

It had the meat patty on one side, on half the bun, and the produce (including tomato) on the other side, on the other half of the bun. My wife used to eat these, although I never did. I can live without tomato, and what's the point of eating a big greasy burger if it doesn't have grease? |

I have no idea why since so many here prefer quantity over quality, but I guess that fits with McDs. LOL. They did test one burger here that wasn't too bad, It had Muenster Cheese on it and more like a Kaiser Roll than a HB bun. Vickie |

For instance, I cited the 99 cents Value Menu prices at one or more of my local FF prices and Jerry said I was lying, as they were $1.19 or $1.29 in his area. For another example, "Two Buck Chuck" is indeed $1.99 at Calfiornia TJ's, but more expensive elsewhere. For yet another example, my area is the so-called Pajaro Valley, part of the larger Salinas Valley. Many vegetables and fruits are available here more inexpensively than in other parts of the country. Likewise, nearby fishing towns--Santa Cruz, Moss Landing, Monterey--often have fresh fish for less than what it costs inland or far away. Even some beef is not more expensive here than in other places. Besides the ultra-trendy Niman Ranch beef from the North Bay, one of the largest feedlots in the country is essentially due east of me, the Harris Ranch feedlot off of I-5 near Coalinga. So, no, we don't pay a lot more here for everything. So much for everything being more expensive in California.... --Tim May |

The lettuce and tomato don't add ANY nutrition (OK, tomato adds 5 calories and 1g carb) The Big'n'Tasty is just a quarter pounder with a mayo sauce that contributes more fat, cholesterol and sodium to an already junk additive rich, piece of crap fast food burger. Ooooh!!! They put lettuce and tomato on it!!! It's gotta be healthier! WRONG! Andy |

My mom has a picture of me in front of a Burger Chef in Louisiana, and french fries were 15 cents. Boy does that make me feel old. Becca |

In a sea of lousy scarf-n-barfs, they were way overdue, their fare being even more tasteless and nondescript than the competition. When you can't even make it against the likes of Jack-in-the-Box and Wendy's, you know you're bad. nb |

Dan, You'd think so but not according to their nutrition numbers. As it reads, they're charging you MORE money to eat a more fatty quarter pounder with cheese. Their CFOs are probably laughing as soon as they wake up every morning! Andy |

WHY THE %^&* would you go to Subway? Subway is crap. We live in St. Louis, and whenever I'm up there, I take advantage of that. --Bryan |

I loved their condiment bar. Back in the late 70s I used to eat there every day, and the reason was the free goodies you could load the burgers with. --Bryan |
