Default Found typo on cereal box!

Look at a box of Trader Joe's "Joe's O's" (a Cheerios knock-off). Look at the
Nutritional Facts panel. See the vitamin B12 25% line?

Notice the next line... Manesium 8%

Uh-oh... should be Magnesium 8%

First typo I've ever found.

Called it in. No lifetime supply reward.

The BUMS!!!

Oh well,

Well, it's a Cheerios knock off, so the Manesium is a knock off too.
Good thing it's not Womanesium... but that would contain Sillycone
boobs with Milk of Magnesium... full circle.

What's the country of origin? I'm pretty much not ever going to buy
anything made in China.

from Dollar General) to stuffed animals (stuffed with "industrial
waste," whatever that is) - fuhgeddaboudit. I think China has
discovered how to make everything cheaper - use unsatisfactory
recycled waste.

I don't believe Trader Joe's makes anything, but they collect foods or
foodstuffs and put their label on it. I could be wrong.

Isn't this the way that Kirkland products from Costco also does it?

I feel (and maybe wrongly so) that there is a little more standard-of-
care with at least these two names on foods that I buy. But even they
cannot be guarding the gate at all times.

I've been throwing out all foodstuffs from China. DH put a new fan in
the refrigerator today, and I found even more.

Isn't it that 90% of vitamins now are coming from China. Minerals
should be an easy one for them. ;-))

Try reading technical documentation for software and hardware. Rarely do
I read such a document and not find at least one grammatical or typing
error. This is common for products made outside the United States, but a
lot of the documentation I read was written right here in the good old
USA.

Try reading newspapers or online news sources or almost anything else
that doesn't go through the more rigorous proofreading that a human
provides, but relies instead on speelchuckers.

Sure but a spell checker worth it's salt should've flagged "manesium." The
fact that a typo slipped by says that somebody dropped the ball BIG TIME in
the art department. Imagine if that happened to US currency? IN GOD WE

A retired editor never retires; she lives on to comment:

A spell checker "worth it's salt" would have flagged "it's" used instead of
the correct "its". So who dropped the ball BIG TIME?

Which reminds me of the time the spell checker
missed the word "adit" in something I wrote.
I meant "audit". It wasn't flagged as an error
because there is a word "adit", and I actually
knew what it meant. The School of Mines at
the university I went to had an adit for the
education of their students. An adit is a
blind, horizontal tunnel. However, I think
any competently designed spell checker should
flag "adit" as an error unless specifically
instructed not to. It is far more likely that
"adit" is a misspelling of "audit".

Here is a test for
your spell checker.

ANN OWED TWO THE SPELL CHECKER
by A. Nonie Mouse

I have a spelling checker -
It came with my pea sea
It plane lee marks four my revue
Miss steaks aye can knot sea

Eye ran this poem threw it,
Your sure reel glad two no.
Its vary polished in it's weigh -
My checker tolled me sew.

A checker is a bless sing.
It freeze yew lodes of thyme.
It helps me awl stiles two reed,
And aides me when aye rime.

To rite with care is quite a feet
Of witch won should be proud.
And wee mussed dew the best wee can,
Sew flaws are knot aloud.

And now bee cause my spelling

Their are know faults with in my cite;

Each frays come posed up on my screen
Eye trussed to be a joule.
The checker poured o'er every word
To cheque sum spelling rule.

That's why aye brake in two averse
By righting wants too pleas.
Sow now ewe sea why aye dew prays

Within the near future, spell checkers will be
able to recognize not just grammatical errors
but also errors of logic. Hopefully, such
spell checkers will be built into all web
browsers, which will dramatically change the
nature of discourse on the net.

But the default should be to flag "adit" as an error,
even though it is a real word. I'm sure there's lots
of other words like that -- uncommon words which are
more often errors than correct usage. Someone should
invent a name for such words. Oh, okay, I'll do it.
"Malographs." Hmmm.... Google shows such a word
already exists, but only in German. I wonder what
it means.

I think it would be better if they were built into all news clients.

Not if you work in mining, which I do. The entrance to any underground mine
is referred to as an adit. I work in finance and compliance so audit is a
common word also. Oh dear, the confusion ;-)
