It's not really an "ingredient", though. But of course you don't want to
run out of it!

Yes, it is *very* good. That's what we use now.

I just got some of that. I totally agree. I am tempted to get more
(as it is a seasonal item at Costco), but I will wait til I get back
to NM. I hope they still have some there....

You can grow ginger from the fresh stuff; just bury a knob from the root in
a pot. Should do very well in your climate But I keep ground ginger on
hand, too. I don't use a lot of ginger, though.

Ginger does grow here; I've got white ginger (not the cooking kind) in my
yard, now. It should be blooming in about 2 months! yay!

Along with the oft mentioned garlic and onions, I'd add potatoes which can
be baked, grilled, boiled or fried I don't tend to keep celery around as
I don't use it that much; it just spoils. I keep Penzey's bell pepper
flakes on hand as I don't use bell peppers much, either.

I keep carrots on hand for my lovebird so if I need carrots I usually have
some. Olive oil, definitely, but also just good old fashioned Wesson (corn)
oil or Canola (gasp) for quick pan-frying. Assorted frozen vegetables for
when I can't get fresh in season (or if the price is outrageous). Butter,
milk, eggs, cheeses. There's a lot more, I'm sure. Oh, and salt & pepper.

Yabbut.... I rarely buy canned vegetables. I keep some on hand in case
there's a storm and the power goes out for an extended period of time.
That's about it.

Onions
Garlic
shallots
Olive oil
wine

I know as soon as I sen this off I will remember some more. I
subscribe to the full frige, and cabinet mode, nearly always have
back ups, like to open doors and see lots of food.

I totally understand. ;-)
We use mostly fresh and fresh frozen here, but I'm just trying to pass
on a "treasure".

The no salt added canned really are drastically better! At least to
me... but they are the same price here now for the most part, especially
the store brand.

70+ % cocoa dark chocolate

Elmer's glue

Since I love to supermarket shop and flirt, it's no biggie to run out of
stuff.

Sheesh. I married one of those. We lasted until death did us part only
because he made the coffee and kept his mouth shut until I spoke my first
word.

I love NM style green chile. I adore it. Green chilies+water+salt+
corn starch.
Yes, a NM native freely gave me the arcane knowledge. That's like

Did you really mean condensed milk, rather than evaporated milk?
Condensed milk *would* glop out, to say nothing about being sickly
sweet.

I had a boyfriend whose father would use condensed milk (gag, shiver)
for his cereal.

My grandmother used it in her tea. Even as a small child I hated it.

Heinz Ketchup. I know that's not news, but I refuse to run out of the

I make the coffe, then bring a cup back to the bedroom and softly say,
"Coffee ____." The word, "coffee," will wake her up even if it's
whispered.

Reminds me of an old joke from the Reagan era:

Following the outstanding success of the "Just Do It" ad campaign, Nancy
Reagan concocted a slogan to combat homelessness:

"Just Buy A House"

That's too much conversation, Bryan. Just leave my coffee on the night
table, please.

Reminds me of a sign I saw in someone's office ...

Come in, state your business quietly, then leave.
This way no one has to get hurt.

Made me a laugh. At any rate, I woke up to Bryan's routine
every morning for many years. No, it wasn't Bryan bringing
the coffee. I sure appreciated that coffee and not having to go
get it.
