Maybe he has, or perhaps he wasn't watching it then. But yes, the winners of the first "Next FN Star" series were those openly *** guys (whose show is terrible, IMO); and Reggie, who was obviously ***, made it to the finals last time. So Paul (if I recall the guy's name) strikes me as this season's token blatantly *** guy. That, plus the guy's skittishness tell me he hasn't got a chance in Hades of winning this contest. I don't know what Bourdain is smoking in rooting for this guy; maybe it's just preference for one of the underdogs. My underdog of choice for this season is Jag, but I expect him to be going fairly soon -- especially now that it's emerged he fabricated and/or misrepresented some of his military and culinary experience. |

His criticisms of the contestants' efforts may have been valid, but there was no reason for him to be so sarcastic and just plain nasty. All put together, them's some pretty big "misrepresentations." Apparently, FN isn't worried any more about credibility issues. N. |

Jag is a glaring fake, as is Tony Bourdain. I like Bourdain's books, but I would never patronize a restaurant at which he is the chef. Bourdain is a former long-time heroin junkie who prefers to hire ex-cons and illegal aliens over people who graduated from culinery school. He hates his patrons, hates educated people, hates everyone who disagrees with him, gleefully serves substandard food if he just doesn't like your face. He had a show on FN, and when it wasn't renewed, lashed out against it like a jealous little boy who didn't get his way. He made insultive statements against FN and its programs and hosts.. If he hates FN so much, why did he take a job with them? Keep writing, Tonino, (that's where your talent lies), but stay out of the kitchen. |

Why would you hold that against him? And Bourdain gives good, convincing reasons for hiring the (mostly Mexican) people he hires. > He hates his patrons, hates educated people, hates everyone who > disagrees with him, gleefully serves substandard food if he just > doesn't like your face. Where are you getting these ideas, Janos? Please be specific. > He had a show on FN, and when it wasn't renewed, lashed out against it > like a jealous little boy who didn't get > his way. He made insultive statements against FN and its programs and > hosts.. What are you smoking? Bourdain left the Food Network when they told him the shows he likes to do -- particularly one about Ferran Adira and El Bulli -- didn't fit their business model. The FN wanted him to stop travelling abroad, stop featuring foreigners, and to start emphasizing barbecue and hamburgers. They wanted to dumb him down, turn him into anther Bobby Flay -- and Bourdain walked. He deserves tons of respect for it; the FN deserves our continued contempt. > If he hates FN so much, why did he take a job with them? Usually, one doesn't get to know an entity until one is experienced with it. Bourdain's show was the best thing the FN ever ran. It's their fault, not his, that it ended, and the FN deserves ever jibe Bourdain makes against them. |

Yeah, a real class act. We've argued about Bourdain before, NB, and your comments here are a reminder that you know extremely little about the guy; and you've paradoxically got some weird issues with him. Bourdain goes into detail in several of his books as to why he likes to employ Mexicans (they're skilled & hard workers). Your comments about Mexicans "being cheap" and "chopping lettuce" amount to mere stereotyping. Bourdain doesn't badmouth "everyone in the industry." He's generous in his praise for good cooks. He does, however, bash many of the *FN personalities*, and he does so amusingly & creatively. They deserve his contempt. |

Why would anyone become so upset at not being agreed with? It is strange that so many people don't believe in freedom of speech. It seems to be a problem that affects Muslims and Republicans. |

Is it always the South; can there be a Southern as well as a Northern Bible Belt? Do people who have Bible Belt taste have different tastes as opposed to what? normal people? I'm showing my age, but I think that being a heroin junkie shows a lack of character. If "every old lady" knows her potatoes so well, it's funny that you *can't* identify the ones in the photo. |

He's bashed Emeril's appearance and antics (and his audience), but admitted that Emeril is a real cook who had paid his dues. My impression is that TB stopped bashing Emeril after he met several of Emeril's workers in New Orleans and found that they had nothing but good things to say about their employer. |

The box in the photo and Bourdain's comment is the name of the distributor. Maybe you should do your homework before responding to posts you know nothing about. Your homosexual crush on Bourdain isn't a big deal, but you don't have to make up lies. He's never going to like you. |

There are more potato varieties in the U.S. than in Poland. Bourdain could have named any of them, but didn't, he named the distributor instead. Get over your obsession with Bourdain and do your homework. He's never going to like you. (Even if he sends you an autographed photo). Focus on someone more attainable for someone like you. Elvis, for instance. |
