Bah! The kitchen is where I can be found most often with the TV
going, music in the background and one (or more) people kibitzing
or complaining about the items being offered.

Selected music when I'm doing serious cooking, otherwise, nothing. :-)

Fun survey, thanks!

I have a Bose "wave" radio that plays my iPod music collection. It's
invisible in the kitchen but the sound completely fills the room. I think
water actually boils faster when The Who is playin'.

Well, I said MCINL, and that's a fact. DH plays the TV all day in the
next room whether he's in there or not and I can't escape the
yackity-yack! (Try CNN all day, every day, some time.)

My wife likes to have the radio on when she is in the kitchen. It used
to be that she would turn on the stereo in the living room and then go
in the kitchen. Well, it's hard to hear, both because it's in the next
room and because her hearing is bad. So, I'm in the living room with
this stereo blasting, and she still can't hear it. So, for Christmas
last year, I got her a radio for the kitchen. It's still too loud but
it's much better.

LOL Sounds like my dad but he doesn't believe in CNN (those pinko commies -
his words, not mine!) Nope, it's anything on the History channel that
involves war. And since his hearing aids give him a bit of trouble it's
always turned to the max, then he ignores it and reads a book. Poor mom has
to go to the kitchen just to escape. Oh, but wait! He put a small TV in
the kitchen, too! Eeeek!

I like quiet while cooking, except for the sound of cooking itself. Water
coming to a boil just before you drop the pasta in. The sizzle of butter
and/or oil to saute onion, garlic, celery, etc. Most (not all) of my music
fav's are too old time rock to be conducive to cooking. They are well
suited to a cook-out with burgers and veggies on the grill and plenty of ice
cold beer, though! <G>

I keep my iPod charger station in the kitchen and blast all my faves
from Rod Stewart to Rachmaninov. While preparing Easter dinner, I
turned around to find half the family grinning widely at my
"conducting" the iPod with a wooden spoon. Miserable brats.

Yes, DH put one in the kitchen, too. We sit at the table having
morning coffee with that TV putting forth, then he goes into the next
room and turns that TV on - but on a different channel. :-p CNN vs.
the Today show. Wow.
I can't wait to hit the power button.

Me, too. I usually only put music on when I'm doing
lots of cooking (and usually cleaning, too), usually for company.
Then I put the stereo on and listen to my CD's. Other times
when I'm in the kitchen for less prolonged periods of time
I listen to nothing.

My whole day is surrounded by music. I wouldn't have it any other way. I
have this incredible BOSE home theater system that will store up to 350
CD's and I have it programmed to play them all randomly. It beats the
radio with advertising/news interruptions and doesn't carry subscription
fees like Sat Radio does. You can program various mood selections if you
choose, but I haven't yet.

When I take a shower, I always play music. I can not imagine taking a
shower without it. I can not explain why I am like that, but I have been
that way since I was in junior high.

Scented Bubble bath.

Beethoven (or Steven Halpern).

Candle light (no electric light).

Margarita or brandy laced hot cocoa, or a simple glass of good wine.

Nothing but blues or fifties R&R in my kitchen. Occasionally a little
Middle Eastern belly dance, mostly on the oud.

Belly dance? (I know what it is; I've just never heard about anyone
listening to it.)

Right now, The Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn

We lived in the Middle East for several years and got hooked on the
stuff. Have several CD's and a couple of old cassette tapes of the
stuff. Most recently we've been buying some Native American flute music
on CD's. Good stuff too.

Our music collection is rather eclectic. Lots of fifties and sixties LP
albums still here, 4 or 500 cassette tapes, probably 100 or more CD's,
and stuff on the computer I've downloaded here and there or people have
sent me.

Neither of us can play an instrument, nor sing worth a hoot either. We
just like music.

I have some of that for listening to out in the high desert.

I still have my '60s LPs, but I haven't hooked up the turntable in a few
years.

Used to play acoustic guitar and sing a bit. Not for *many* years.
