I saw some at the commissary frozen this weekend....Too much for my
budget.

I think the last time I had it was last year for our anniversary...we
went out and I had lobster ravioli with vodka sauce.

I had it once and it was garlic flavored rubber. I suspect that they
weren't cooked properly.

I have one in the freezer to roast eventually. Lamb is an acquired
taste for me. I like it, but the gaminess gets to me after a while. I
feel like I can't get the taste out of my mouth.

I have them 3 times and have no craving for them. I like the garlic butter,
so it didn't bother me that they tasted like garlic flavoured rubber, only
that the texture was like rubber.

Send it to me. I love lamb and the only hunk of meat that I would prefer
over a leg of lamb would be a rack of lamb. I have to admit that I was
disappointed in a boneless shoulder of lamb I cooked last night. The outer
areas were IMO overdone and the inner part was raw, and there was a huge
wad of fat in there that should have been removed rather than folded up and
hidden and sold for the same price as the real meat.

I have got to learn to make lamb. I have only had it with Greek
friends, maybe three times total in my life.

I can find unseasoned (but yes, precooked) crawfish tail meat in the freezer
section by the seafood counter. I never use it in anything that requires
more than a quick heat-up in a cream based sauce so it works just fine. And
a pound of it goes a long way.

Zuke's are in season too so there are plenty of small, tender ones.

The ones I've had have ham *and* thinly sliced turkey on them along with 2
kinds of cheese (can't recall which off the top of my head - cheddar and
provolone, maybe). I had them hold the powdered sugar sprinkled over the
top, though. You know me and sweets - no thanks!

I know what you mean.
Pre-cooked ones are always cooked in cayanne. I don't get that!
It overwhelms that lovely sweet flavor. :-(

I wonder...

Are there any wild ones around? They are a blast to fish for. :-)
My mom used to use bacon rind for bait.

I just did a little searching... Looks like this site has the best
prices. I may even order some myself when I am feeling a bit more flush.
Right now I have a major crackdown on my budget:

http://www.crawdads.net/prices/#Crawfish

It's really not a bad price at all!
Even locally, they run $2.50 per lb. live when available.

I can get tail meat in 1 lb. packages, but for some reason it tastes
really "fishy".

Thanks for that! I'll have to try it.
There is a bottle of Clam Juice in the pantry cabinet that dad bought. I
was wondering what to do with it!

That actually sounds good.

Do you marinate them under refrigeration?

I have to disagree babe.
Rib Eye is my #1 favorite cut, followed by Strip Steak.
Chuck is good but it's in 3rd place.

And it's running around $5.00 per lb.

I got the same impression from eating octopus in Japan as well.

Ocotpus is best raw as sashimi IMO.

Young lamb shouldn't taste gamey but the older the animal the gamier it
gets. Incidentally, that's why mint sauce is served with it, to offset
any gamey taste. (That's real mint sauce, with minced leaves, vinegar
and sugar). By the time it becomes mutton, it's strong,
greasy-flavoured and yucky.

I can remember! We were in Maine for 3 days on family business about
5 yrs. ago and we had 5 lobster meals. That's one of the many things
I miss about N.E.

Last night I had a chunk of lamb cooking on the BBQ. My brother called
about something, and knowing that is wife is away fro the weekend I told
him we were cooking a lamb roast if he wanted to come for dinner. His
response was "Lamb? Yech. No thanks."

When you get to RI, be sure to stop at Iggy's in Warwick's Oakland
Beach neighborhood. Clam heaven. They have coupons in the paper just
about every day for their special of clam chowder, slaw, fried clams
and clamcakes. They do a great job on fish & chips as well. And you
can't beat the view: Right on the water, and by fall, no crowds.

Is that heaven or what?<g>

I think that's what they taste like, garlic-flavored dirt. That, or
we have the same mutant taste buds.

Careful what you wish for, sweetie. You might get it.

Noiw, if you want to wish for rain every evening, during supper or
just before bedtime, that might work.

maxine in ri, where we're not in drought yet this year.

I think you do, too I've never seen it already seasoned! That would
sort of defeat the purpose of having crawfish tail meat. Not every Cajun or
Creole style dish is loaded down with cayenne pepper.

You're lucky. We're having an influx of gators in swimming pools because
we're in such a drought. Well, there's that and wildfires. Meanwhile, I'm
just happy that my roses are blooming. :~)

We're not either (yet), maxine. Usually scattered rain or thunderstorms
most every afternoon this time of year. Brief, but plenty enough to keep
things green. Of course, we can't catch fresh crawfish up here, either.

We're dry as the dickens here on Maryland's eastern shore. Even our
bushes are starting to droop. Farmers' corn is beginning to suffer,
too.

I took it like you did also, not lobster. I think that was his way
of getting the ball rolling.

We aren't twisted, they are ;-)

Rib eye = Rib/Scotch fillet over here.
That's about $9.30AUD for 500g...... depending on where you shop over
here, we can get it for about $14kg.

Now *Eye Fillet* (your Tenderloin) will set you back between $28-$37kg!!
But it's worth it :-)

And speaking of meat......... I've found another source just outside
Brisbane for my protein fix :-)

http://www.lowline.com.au/beef.html

A side of beef is a flat $9.99kg.

That's not too bad.
Translates to about $5.00 per lb.
