I saw them again at a farm market today, and they were, indeed,
labeled 8 ball, not stuffing, zucchini. I picked up a couple. Perhaps
they are the vegetable du jour, I never saw them before now they are
everywhere.

Pattypan can be green, yellow, white, varigated, etc. I much prefer
pattypan to those round ones, pattypan are much easier to grill.

I grew them for 3 or 4 years. I gave up this year. Too many squash
and too many varieties. I am down to green and yellow zucchinis this
year and I still have too many.

I like squash well enough, but not to have it all the time. It's not
something
I'd be likely to grow, but then, I don't really have a garden so the point
is
moot.

I also bought some lima beans in the pod. Can someone tell me how you
go about cooking them? Shell them, then steam them?

Okay, I just shelled one and ate a couple lima beans raw.
They're very tasty. I have never had fresh limas, never even
saw them. Usually I get them frozen.

They are similar. I have had fava beans brined, and they are
more yellow.

Someone will have a better answer for you than I do.

We are used to eat raw favas in May (especially the 1st of May- the "work
feast"- when many people go to picnic). We are used to eat them with
"Pecorino" (the one that you call Romano). They are very good raw or cooked
like peas with a little meat broth and bacon.
