Default Lunch today

Invited a good friend over who isn't a foodie and doesn't like chile
(despite being a native-born New Mexican).

We had steamed shrimp (raw, in the shell, bought on sale and put into
the freezer)with various sauces, hard-cooked eggs, lettuce, tomatoes,
gherkins, olives and toast.
Dessert was a choice of cantaloupe (also on sale), sliced oranges,
really good chocolate coated biscuits/cookies (bought on sale) and
raspberry gel filled chocolate sticks.
Drinks were lemon-lime soda, iced tea and iced water. No alcohol as she
was driving and no one else wanted any anyway.

Not the season for them yet and I'm the only one who can eat them. My
mother has an aspirin allergy and shouldn't eat favas. Not that she
likes them LOL.

Despite NOT being from NM, I think that chile is practically a
religious experience every time, which is often.
Big Jim chilies+water+cornstarch+salt
I just had a nice green burrito for dinner. Extra chile.

--Bryan ~20 hours by Amtrak from the NM state line.

Cornstarch?? Whatever for?
Green chile is great on fire-roasted lamb or mutton. Serve that on some
frybread...definitely a religious experience.

We could do that! The chiles usually come in starting in August anyway.
And I do have a good recipe for frybread (somewhere). It's basically
sopaipilla dough but rolled flat, hole punched in it and deep-fried.

Tonight, she who turns sedans into convertables had char-sui lamb chops
done under the griller...... and I had some thick and tender pork loins,
seasoned, seared, and put in a hot oven for 5 mins,

We had cubed potatos and sweet potato, steamed and put in a bowl with
plenty of freshly chopped (continental) parsley, and garlic butter as a
side, with fresh steamed veges.

Ahhhh...but can you roast the lamb over a wood fire at your house LOL!
Can't imagine what the zoning regs are in the Foothills. Should taste
good with grilled lamb anyway. The green chiles were roasted, peeled and
chopped, seasoned with a little salt and nothing else. That was at the
'Eight Northern Indian Pueblos Arts and Crafts' show some years ago;
it's occurring this weekend if you aren't on duty.

Well..I have a grill and some lump charcoal. No wood though.

And yes, I am off Friday and Saturday. I am now trying to remember
where San Juan Pueblo is...

I know some folks from Santa Clara Pueblo....

They are both Rio Grande pueblos, all of which are pretty
close to each other (by New Mexico standards, anyway).

The Ohkay Owinge Pueblo (San Juan) lies 25 miles (40 km.) north of Santa
Fe on U.S. 84/285 or as they say in the ads on TV '30 minutes north of
Santa Fe'. Can't remember how we got there, as I wasn't the driver.
Probably the blasted I25 to 84/285...

Nope. She who only used to have mint jelly/sauce with her lamb has to be
persuaded slowly :-)
