Default Cooking and Not Liking 'Kangaroo Meat'...

Who here like's 'Kangaroo' Meat, I have tried it now a few times and I find
after I cook it I don't really want to eat it....I do not 'overcook' it
either..I believe we 'export' a lot of it to USA and Europe....

Today I tried to see again after weakening at Woolworths Supermarket..I
tries a mini roast that was marinated in herbs and spices..I followed the
cooking details to cook it...20' @ 190oC (the container covered in
foil)..Then removing the foil and putting it back into the oven for 10 mins
(This part I left for approx 14-14 mins, then I took out and covered it
again in foil for 15 Hr.. When I removed it from the foil, I started to
slice it and found it to be completely raw still as I passed the 2nd thin
slice...As the oven was then turned off, I put it into a 650 watt Microwave
for 2 mins and left it for a couple more before looking at it..It was still
quite raw, so I gave it another 2 mins (which was a total of 4 mins
microwaving)

As I sliced it, it had a terrible smell to it (very strong, not bad though)
I ended up eating it, but I did not like it at all, and have finally said to
myself,...This is it !!..No more.. Yucky...:-)

Roo is best eaten medium rare. It's got bugger all fat, so is *very*
good.
The smell was most probably the 'gamey' smell.

Try the Kanga Bangers. They are quite good.

I like roo steaks, chargrilled medium rare (or panfried) and with a red
wine deglaze sauce.

The very 1st time I tried Kangaroo (marinated) Steak, Peter, I liked it and
it was very tender. It certainly did not have the same taste as later one's
I tried...

When I said it was 'raw' I meant it was actually 'Raw..After I cooked it in
the microwave though, it was what one would call, medium rare... But I found
it quite disgusting a taste (and texture as well !)

I haven't the stomach to try it again. I hadn't tried the sausages, but have
seen them in 'Woollies' though...

For one of the mini-roasts not to cook properly, if you followed the
instructions...... means you're oven is crap. Try it in a weber.

********!! If it doesn't kill you, it'll just make you stronger!!!

All that has happened is that you haven't cooked it properly........ and
yes, you followed the instructions...... but have you thought your oven
may be farkedup?

Meat cooked in the microwave is always awful.

Something was probably wrong about the meat... maybe it was spoilt.

I have cooked Kangaroo meat by pan-frying it many times and it was
always excellent, better than most any beef. The meat is very lean, of
course, but surprisingly juicy and tender. The taste is something
between beef and venison, but closer to beef. There has never been any
"off" taste or smell, nor any "gaminess". Kangaroo has to be cooked
rare, even very rare and even then it still won't be extinct.

Victor,

It's gotta be grey kangaroo! Red stinks.

There's a fine line between an awesome "filet mignon" kangaroo steak and a
piece of leather, about 1 minute!

Nuking it was a mistake.
From what I've seen, 'roo is very much like deer.

Nuking will make it taste like crap.
It needs to be treated like cow.

Depends.

Red meat, agreed.

Pork is so-so if you do it right.

About the only meat that works for me nuked is poultry.
