Default Can't believe I did this!!

Cut my hand while *preparing* to cut up some food! Haven't done that in
many years. And it wasn't even due to my reduced vision but rather my
reduced intelligence LOL! It's fine but I felt like an idiot really.

Was going to slice some poached chicken for salad; had thin spaghetti in
the poaching broth instead (rather than risk cutting off my hand).

I hope you're fine. My mistakes in the past have generally been confined
to my left index finger since I'm right handed. I expect to carve that
good old finger up again before I die. Sharp knife slices tend to heal
quickly unless the cut makes an ellipse. But I'm sure you know that.
Heal quickly.
Isn't food prep a person's best chance to shed blood?

In my experience, forgetting one's anniversary ranks right up there!
(Hope you'll be okay, Arri).

I sliced into my thumb. Just over the top, yes, right down into the nail.
Arrrggg. Horrible bandaids over top of everything, but it reminds me to keep
my d**n thumb out of the way. We'll heal quick - it's all that garlic,
chocolate and red wine!

How much had you had to drink? ;-)

Last two times I cut myself badly, I'd been indulging in the wine meant
to accompany dinner... Alcohol on an empty stomach is a bad idea!

If I cut myself in the middle of a prep, I apply a band aid and a latex
glove, then carry on. ;-)

Yesterday, when I cooked Nancy's Hungarian Short Ribs, I had about a
glass and a half of red wine, which I intended to add to the dish.

However, I had to ascertain that the wine was still good, so I tasted
it. It was very good, but how would I know it would still be good by
the time I planned to pour it into the pot? So, I did the obvious thing
and kept tasting it. It must have been hot in the kitchen and the wine
must have evaporated, because all of a sudden both the full and the half
filled glasses were empty.

But I felt really good!

This is how one should always start the day, a good chuckle from
excellent prose. Thank you!

I gave myself a nasty gash last year. I had a leg of lamb on the BBq and
went into the kitchen to make the salad. I stupidly held an avocado in my
left hand and whacked into it with a large chefs knife and was startled to
see the knife blade ad sliced deep into the flesh of my finger. I was
stunned. I grabbed a paper towel and applied pressure. My wife came running
with the first aid kit. I put a gauze pad on it and bound it in place with
tape. It seemed to do the trick. But then I had to clean up the blood. I t
was on the counters, the kitchen table, the floor, the stove, just about
everywhere but the ceiling.

The next day I changed the bandage and saw that it was still bleeding so I
headed off to Emergency. I stopped on the way to visit my mother. The
triage nurse asked me what on Earth made me think I should not have come
right away. It was cut right to the bone. I told her the truth. I had a
leg of lamb ready to come off the grill and didn't want to waste that
sitting in the waiting room for a few hours. Besides, I had had a little
too much to drink and hadn't been expecting to have to drive anywhere.

They would not stitch it because too much time had passed. So they just
bandaged it and sent me home. It healed just as well as it would have if
it had been stitched. I don't hold avocados when I slice into them
anymore.

Yes it only bled for a minute or so and is sealing up nicely. A Jewish
friend said whatever I was cutting up wouldn't be kosher LOL! It wasn't
kosher to begin with and no blood touched the food 'cause I didn't get
that far.

Normally I try to avoid shedding blood in the kitchen; some of my
'assistants' have narrowly missed being done away with though...

LOL! I think the last time I did cut my self in the kitchen it was also
the top of the thumb. Bandaged it up and went to our employee health
clinic the next day. Didn't need stitches but the doctor did laugh at me
while he was bandaging my thumb *correctly* and giving me a tetanus shot
(it had been more than 10 years since the last one)!

Ouch ouch! There are a couple of 'hot oil' tiny scars on my forearms.
Now I wear long sleeves when I do any deep

LOL! Hadn't even got that far! The current budget (or lack thereof)
doesn't include alcohol although we have a little in the house. For
cooking purposes of course...

Yah... got told off by a triage nurse in June for not coming in sooner
but hey...got other things to do ya know! However spilling blood
(especially when it's mine) normally gets my attentiom.

My mother thought I should go to emergency but I decided it didn't need
it. Not that much blood, cut wasn't that deep and the knife was clean
(since I hadn't cut any food yet).

Not holding the avocados is a good idea, but I still do it anyway.

Stitches are like nails. They're only there to hold until the glue sets.
