I wonder how long most new Foreman grill users go before they forget
to put the drip tray in place once. I managed to forget a few days
ago, for what was probably my fifth use. I noticed this about half
way through making some lamb. No damage to the wood top of the
microwave cart[1] I'd picked up for the grill (counter space and
storage space both limited, here), but I'm glad I pulled out my
spirit level when I assembled and set up the cart, so all I had was
a long skinny puddle and not run-off into the carpet.

[1]I also gained some storage with this. Surprisingly sturdy, too.
A nice little unit for only $40US. http://tinyurl.com/2rqsh2
One of a series of carts and racks they have in black and chrome. I
didn't use the casters; I used the alternate leg levelers included.

I got the micro-Foreman (one burger sized) as a gift and threw out the grease
tray when I first took it out of the box. Something else to clean? I use a
cheapo coated paper plate.

Aren't you smart! This saved you the trouble of losing it to the cabinet
elves
and then searching compulsively for it and not finding it anyway!

This is a good thread, I had forgotten all about my Foreman grill. I hope
the
elves have not sucked it up too.

I never have.. yet. <Knocks on wood> I let grill cool, clean it
and drip tray then put tray on top of the grill and store.

I bought one just like it, due to the limited storage here also.
I love it. Though now it's being buried with the stuff I'm too
lazy to put away. ;-)

I use my GF grill almost every day. I have it set up next to my sink on a
cutting bd. When I'm cooking (chicken for the most part, so not a lot of
fat) I have the GF grill set so the edge is over the sink so all of the
drips go directly into the sink. When I'm done cooking I use the sink
sprayer and spray off the grill while it's still hot (unplug it first), the
water from cleaning also goes directly into the sink. Then a quick wipe w/
a paper towel. It only takes me seconds to clean.
After several years of doing this, I have never had a problem w/ my sink
getting clogged, but then again, I don't cook foods all that high in fat on
the GF grill.

Yep. I also got rid of that funky scraper fork they include.

The As-Seen-On-TV cheap-o mandolin from the 1990s. Got rid of the plastic
spiral vegetable cutter and decorator punch! I did turn a cucumber into a
slinky and then the thrill was gone. I still use the mandolin.

The KA mixer came with a folding plastic "dust" shield that sits on the
bowl that went straight into the trash. Something ELSE to clean.

But you have to have the spiral vegetable cutter so you can make your
own "tornado taters" instead of waiting for the state fair to get
them...

Pete,

I'd never heard of the things until right here/right now that you mentioned
it.

I did google it and found a youtube video of a homespun electric tornado
tater maker at work.

They didn't mention them on the infomercial! The BUMS!!!

Oh well...

I have something similar that I use for my table top oven, except that
instead of wire shelves, it has 4 wire drawers. :-) LOTS of storage
space! 3 deep drawers and one shallow one.

I know some people that use aluminum foil "boats".

My Hamilton grill is too big to do that with. I use the drawer that
slides into the side of it.

I empty it after use, and just actually wash it when I feel it really
needs it. It's not like I eat out of the drip drawer or anything... :-)

Is that the model where the top can lay flat for extra grill area?

I wish the micro GF did that. I don't use the top half of it. The weight,
combined with high heat can really bleed meats dry in a hurry, imho.

Yes.

Foreman makes several different models.
They may very well make one that does that, but imho Hamiltons are just
as good as Foremans if not better, and are about 40% lower in price.

My main requirement is that the grids must be REMOVABLE in case they end
up needing soaking.

I got mine (this one: http://tinyurl.com/yr368p) a couple weeks ago,
after first asking for input on them in here and getting very positive
comments. So far, I've had no bad experiences with lamb, beef, chicken
and last night's salmon. Well, except for having to clean a little when
I forgot the drip tray. Since I got two of them in the package, policy
is to position the other one immediately on removing the grease-filled
one for cleanup.

That's quite a system you've developed.

Yours doesn't have removable griddle plate, right?

In fact, Target has something like that in this this same line.

No, The one w/ the removable plates is too big for my counter top. I have
med. sized one that has the "bun warmer" on the top. I don't think they
make those anymore. I can make 4 burgers or 2 large chicken breasts.
