Default Ping Nancy Young. I Found the Meatball and Grape Jelly Recipe InA Cookbook

I found it in a Kosher cook book, the kind sisterhoods and congregations
publish. The kind RFC did in 2001. I thought your recipe was a joke
and there it is, black on white.

Oh, Margaret, you made me laugh! No, it's no joke. From the time
this woman said to me, you know what's in those meatballs? Chili
sauce and grape jelly ... that's not my kind of joke, trying not to look
horrified and suddenly tasting grape jelly and chili sauce.

(laugh) Ah, I hope I didn't look as horrified as I was. I tried to look
interested.

Oh hush ... you only think that because you don't make the recipe
as written, you substitute tomato sauce for the chili sauce and grape
jelly.

Nancy, I guess the idea of those meatballs in a respectable cook book,
kept you from sleeping. You sure are up early today.

I'm on edge worrying about what kind of company you have been
keeping. Are you safe around these grape jelly meatball pushers?

An old family dish in my family is to make sweet & sour meatballs, which
is your standard meatball recipe in tomato sauce, but with cranberry
jelly added to the pot near the end so it give it a slight sweet flavor.
Its very good! If you add the cranberry sauce too soon, the sugar in it
has a tendency to burn at the bottom of the pot.

@@@@@ Now You're Cooking! Export Format

Nancy's Grape Jelly Meatballs

none

1 1/2 cups chili sauce
1 cup grape jelly; (can use currant jelly)
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard - (to 3 tspns)
1 tbsp horseradish sauce; 1-2 tbsp to taste
1 pound lean ground beef; or half beef half pork
1 egg; lightly beaten
3 tablespoons fine dry bread crumbs
1/2 pkg onion soup powder

Combine chili sauce, jelly, horseradish and mustard in crock pot and stir
well. Cook, covered, on HIGH while preparing meatballs. Combine remaining
ingredients and mix thoroughly. Shape into 30 meatballs. Bake meatballs
in
a preheated 400 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes; drain well. Add
meatballs
to sauce, stir to coat, cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 10 hours. This
recipe yields 30 meatballs.
