Hiya folks,
I was trying to google for the posts (and recipe) about Kay's margarita's today. In the past, I have been able to pull it up easily. However it seems google is only looking back about a year now. Is this something new? When I google for Kay Hartman's posts, I get no responses at all. Nada. Can some of the rest of you try to google for older recipes, etc? This is very frustrating. Christine |

If you just google for it, in the groups seach, it comes up. Usually I have gone through the advanced search feature to find things. Something indeed must be wonky there. Christine |

Just the other day I had a hissy fit, couldn't find my recipe for chicken catch. I googled every configuration I could think of. Finally googled on water, from pre-2005, nothing. Well, surely I said water at *some* point in the last 10 years. So then, sf pulled up my recipe no problem. It's definitely wacky. nancy |

If I put hartman magarita in all word and rec.food.cooking in group, I get only this thread. If I delete the rec.food.cooking in the group box, I get 323 responses, most from rec.food.cooking. Go figure. Google Groups is getting more and more screwed up. They now sometimes list only headers, toss whole articles, etc. I saw this coming a long time ago. Despite all the claims by folks that storage is so cheap storage will never be a problem, archiving all those posts adds up. There are 80K+ newsgroups and people who refuse to trim millions of lines of quoted text are crapping everything up. nb |

In another group, someone a few days ago mentioned not being able to find something from that group. He'd done an absolutely simple one-keyword search. When I saw his post, I tried. It was the first hit I got; it was from 2004. A couple days ago it found no posts from me. The next day it showed 7,000. <clickety> If I make that a phrase search (by enclosing the string in quotation marks: "Blinky the Shark") it shows about 92,000. Still, the same search (words, not phrase) went from 0 to 7,000 in one day. ![]() -- Blinky RLU 297263 Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html |

They could dump anything older than 3 months, and who would care?? N. |

Groups search has been wacky and inconsistent for some time now. One thing that seems to make a difference is your SafeSearch setting. If it's on "strict", then lots of posts aren't found, even though there doesn't seem to be anything in them that should cause a problem.
