I used to get beef jerky at a local pub. You just opened the jar, reached in
and whipped out a strip, tossed $.50 on the counter and munched. It was peppered to death and delicious. Alas the pub is long gone and every so often I get a hankering for some. I don't want to make it myself and can't imagine hunting down the good ol' stuff, so, anyone have a favorite brand in a bag to recommend? Peppery preferred. I'm also open to other than beef jerky. Thanks, Andy |

It is more tender than most jerkys. Even more tender is Jack Link's kippered beef steak. Most other jerkys are dry and tough. Mitch |

I'm also open to other than beef jerky. If there's an Asian food store nearby, you'll likely find an excellent selection of interesting jerkies, such as pork jerkies, fluffy jerkies (don't know the technical name), and jerkies flavored with various fruit juices. |

The little jerky in the bag there was were all different sizes and different chewiness. Not good jerky. And there was a small packet of something (desiccant?) in the bottom of the bag I almost ate. I'll try a bag of Pemmican next time around. Thanks, Andy |

The only Asian market I found close by was basically a small Asian 7/11. Nothing resembling a large variety, busy Asian market. ![]() I'll keep your suggestion in mind if I happen to find a good one. And, of course, it's cheap. 2 lbs for $8 or $11 or something. --Blair |

I knew that in advance. :/ I've noticed that dried meats (or meats that have lost moisture, like prosciutto) have more gout-producing punch than fresh. That only stands to reason, of course, but some things you have to learn through experience. Sometimes multiple times before the message gets through the skull to the brain. |

The rest of their meats are excellent too. I won't wouldn't eat any bagged jerky if I have a shred of hope that I can go to Qtown! I have a friend that lives in Havertown that comes up , visits us, then goes to the Qmart and buys like 10 pounds of it. http://www.quakertownfarmersmkt.com/ |

From Media, it's less than an hour away. I'll have to run up there and have a look around. Probably stop by on the way to Hawk Mountain later this month or next. It's 17 bucks a pound, though, I'll warn you. We've been to Hawk Mountain, it's great - passed it recently on the way back from camping in NE PS above Scranton. One highlight of that trip was finding a Wegman's (first time shopping there), but that's another thread! |

I'm recently a gout victim, so I'm not gonna go for pounds of beef jerky. I'll ring them up about other jerky meats. I'll grab some (for the flicks) no matter. Getting to Hawk Mountain is a breeze.
