If I've not mentioned it, I had one of those a couple-three months ago.

Recently I did the fish tacos at *two* joints a block or two from the
sand down at Manhattan Beach (California) and only about a block apart.
They were better at the one that didn't have "Fish Tacos" in their name.

Trust me, you don't want to know...

It's a commercial confection made by "Hostess":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twinkie

Been a few years but my preferred item made by them are Ding Dongs.
Been so long, I don't even remember when I had them last. I've made a
major effort to cut processed sugar out of my diet for the most part.
Not 100% granted, but it's at a minimum. I don't wish to become totally
type II diabetic:

<lol> I've had those. Picante sauce (Pace Brand Medium chunky) is my
choice with them.

I never did put cheese on them!

I enjoyed it. Not something I'm going to seek out wherever I go <g>,
but as a novelty after some BBQ (it was at a Q joint) it was fun and
actually tasty, the way it was served.

This was a no-nonsense BBQ joint, next to a gas station and across the
street from a car wash. Nice view from the patio seating. <g> I was
thus very surprised by the presentation of said Twinkie. Next time I'm
there I must get one for a photo op. Oh, hell...I'll stop by this week
and post the results. I'm getting a new crown tomorrow, and I should
introduce it to some Q anyway.

Don't think I've ever had one of those.

<lol>

You REALLY don't want to know!

Deep fried decadence, not the least bit heart healthy!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funnel_cake

The ultimate heart attack on a plate, but pure heaven on the palette.
I think it's been at least 10 years for me, or more.

Blinky,

Help me out if you can...

In Redondo Beach, there used to be our favorite 1980's Sunday brunch
restaurant. You'd turn onto Portofino Way and when you got to the end,
instead of turning right into the Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club, you took a
left into the restaurant parking lot. The restaurant itself is on the
point. I see it on GoogleEarth but no thumbtack for it.

Maybe if the thumbtack is off, would it be the Breakwater Steak Jazz and
Seafood place? Or another name, and would you know if they still do up
Sunday brunch?

Fond memories of Eggs sardou champagne and watching the crabbers on the
rocks outside the windows below.

Thanks,

Andy

P.S. We used to stomp around Manhattan and Hermosa Beaches a lot! A bud had
an apartment just two blocks up the hill from the beach. We'd duck into a
bar on the Strand (and 12th?) and drink beer and play table shuffleboard.

I see them at the market but all I remember about ding dongs and the yodels
and the like was the chocolate coating always made my fillings "ring!"

I tried the new banana-cream filled twinkies. GIMME my SweetTarts!!!

There was a food-tv show (Tyler Florence?) about deep fried snickers candy
bars.

Please let me chip in.

This thread is beyond belief - a bunch of immature nincompoops having
endless hissy fits. One envisions a bunch of overweight women in
chocalate-stained housecoats and curlers shouting at each other over the
fence between their trailers.

Thanks, guys, the newsgroup goes down yet another notch.

I was thinking how nice it would be if we could put a summary of this
thread in the FAQ so it wouldn't have to be repeated. Newcomers to the
group, in addition to wanting to know how to convert measurements, might
want to know who hates whom, who started it, who thinks someone else is
a drunk, where the alliance lines are drawn, etc. It could be done as a
chart with arrows pointing from name to another. Or we could construct
a kicking order so we'd know who's at the bottom. I know I'd find it
easier to keep the people straight that way.

It be on the website and could have all those little smiley (or in
this case frownie) faces on the map similar to where we all live.
Connect the combatants by lightening bolts, etc, Alliances could each
have their own symbol with the faces overlaid.

Oh, sorry to post on Google. My server only picks up half the posts,
so to read the whole sordid mess I had to google it to see who said
what to whom..........sorta like a warped other dimension soap opera.

It WAS a Tyler Florence Food 9-1-1 episode! He was helping a proper English
gent, relocated stateside, re-discover his favorite taste of home,
fish'n'chips and they deep-fried the snickers bars for dessert.

Default Comfort and Joy was e: Jill's Meltdown

Years ago I found an really interesting movie by Scottish director William
Forsythe called "Comfort and Joy" about a Glasgow radio morning show host
whose kleptomaniac girlfriend leaves him on Christmas Eve. We becomes
infatuated with a young lady he sees in an ice cream vending truck and
becomes indirectly involved in an ice cream vending mafia conflict. He
brokers a resolution to their problems by mastering the process of deep
frying ice cream. It is a terrific movie, even if I did give away the
ending. It is well worth renting if you come across it in a video store.

Forsythe did another priceless film "Local Hero" about a man who is sent by
his Texas based oil company to buy up a Scottish seaside town to be
developed into an oil refinery and shipping facility. He is selected
because his name is MacIntosh, though it turned out that his parents were
Lithuanian immigrants who had anglicized their names. The movie is full of
interesting characters and repeated themes. There is a great sound track of
music from Dire Straits.

I was cloudy on that point.

When I think of fish'n'chips I think of merry old England. Don't ask me why!

Yeah, not too many fish n chips shops around the states,
that's why Tyler was making them with the British ex-pat.
So, no, Snicker bars deep fried in chip shop is not 'only in
America' ...

We used to get our fill of fish'n'chips (and beer) at Edinburgh Castle Pub
in San Francisco in the 1970s. Scottish pub (couldn't tell, huh?, served
wrapped in yesterday's newspaper. Delicious! I don't think they served
deep-fried snickers back then.

When you post something, and then deny it, people will assume memory
loss.
