Default Bagged salad for sandwich topping?

I've been tempted to use a hearts of romaine bagged salad as topping for
sandwiches instead of only a salad bowl.

Ever done that?

Bagged salad or just simpler stuff? For a tuna or chicken salad sandwich for
example? I've always been using some shredded iceberg lettuce off a head of
it for greens.

You?

Bagged baby arugula is great (and easy) to add to sandwiches
too . . .especially tuna or egg salad.

Lia,

OK. Do you use a salad spinner for the bagged salads also?

Thanks,

I've done it many times, go for it! Have used the bagged salad and not
had any problems, am very happy with it. I never use a salad spinner
with them either.q

Alfalfa sprouts for me. I grow my own because the ones in the
supermarket too often have brown feet.

l, not -l,

Great! I'm on miracle whip here for my diet (actually TJ garlic humus more
often).

O-D-Rye, I know I should know what that means. Explain?

Thanks,

Andy

The spring mix, mesclun, etc., are great for varying your
sammich choices. Especially if you're using exotic meats
like salmon or quail or something.

Yes. What's the matter with that?

I use mesclun (except I can buy it unbagged) too.

Iceberg is good for chinese chicken salad, not chicken salad
sandwiches.

Just comparing calories, Miracle Whip has 40 calories per tablespoon and
Hellmann's has 90. BTW, I love hummus.

I've never been disappointed with bagged salad greens.
They can be a nice change of pace.

You don't have to wash bagged greens...

Although some consumers group tested those supposedly "washed" greens
and found many are pretty dirty.

yes, and didn't someone find a frog in a bag not too long ago? it might
have been a hoax, but it looked pretty gross.

Ugh.. I dunnno..never heard about the frog? Bagged greens cost more than
loose heads of decent greens, although for some folks the bag probably
provides more variety at once than they'd otherwise be able to buy and
use up.
I find they frequently have an odd smell (fermenting?) or flavor that
turns me off. I prefer to buy individual heads of various lettuces and
loose greens as they're cheaper, except for the mixed baby greens or
spring mix I enjoy. I bought a large container of mixed baby greens at
Sam's Club a while ago to try and it was delicious. I was pleased at how
long they stayed fresh too, considering the size container Sam's Club sells.

I dunno, mass production being what it is...

My sister once found a rat turd in the bottom of a bag of Fritos from a
vending machine.

We've not bought Fritos brand since.

I'd rather find a live frog than a dead one. ;-)
I'd set it free in the garden for more organic pest control!

Then I'd wash my salad and not worry about it.

Guess I oughta go buy a salad spinner. The retained water is one reason
I was purchasing pre-washed greens!

Live and learn.

I once found a live (and large) grasshopper in a head of
romaine. Imagine my surprise! Imagine his surprise!
Where am I???

I put it outside. Probably upset the balance of nature and
cause global warming. Sorry.

<lol>

I've found live wormses in fresh corn from roadside stands, but it's
been a few years. :-) We just cut away the affected part and cooked it
anyway.
