After the loss of our beloved Jasper, we needed to get another cat to
keep Tsarina Phoebe company. Luka arrived Tuesday night. He's another
Russian Blue (aged 13 weeks), and is a real sweetie. He's also a
hellion. He obviously did not read the Russian Blue manual on being shy
and reserved--he started exploring the minute we opened the carrier to
let him out. Her Highness is beginning to warm up to him, now that she
has put the little guy in his place.

This morning was the Seattle Danskin Triathlon. I was the bike leg(s)
on a relay team, and this was my first triathlon. It had rained all
night, so the park was a soggy mess when we arrived. As the swimmer on
our team came in to pass off the timing chip to me, it began to pour.
It rained steadily throughout the ride, but road conditions were not as
bad as they could have been. Fortunately, my bike tires have some tread
to them (unlike true racing tires). The major victory for me was
getting up the steep hill to the I-90 express lanes without dismounting.
The estrogenic energy was amazing to witness. One of my cronies (one of
the most experienced triathletes I know) managed to break her arm two
nights before the race, but her orthopedic surgeon (and the Danskin
folks) let her do the walking portion of the race with her cast swaddled
in a New York Times plastic bag. Another one of my cronies finished the
whole race despite being seriously injured last year and only being
cleared to do the swim leg last month.

On-topics:
Tonight's dinner will be Thai pork curry. We have most of the
ingredients on hand; in addition, Uwajimaya had fresh pineapple on sale
(it was Hawaiian week there).

Earlier in the week I made sourdough olive bread from Secrets of a
Jewish Baker. The recipe called for rye flour, which was unusual, but
the SO raved about it.
