![]() Who determines "serving size" ? Are there any federal rules ? guidelines ? Eating breakfast, reading the cereal box; "Serving size .... 1/2 cup" but for a different cereal; "Serving size.... 1 cup" ??? And we've all seen these boxes of dinner mix that proudly proclaim; "Serves SIX" ! ( serving size 1tbs. ;o) ) I guess they could label a box of peanuts; "Serving size.... 3 peanuts, Serves 150 " ??? Has "Serving Size" become meaningless ? <rj> |

It is not really meaningless if you are serving by volume. Take the cereal example, 1/2 cup seems just about right for All-Bran but 1 cup suits me for, say, Corn Flakes. Quite possibly, the weights might be similar but I haven't checked. However, sometimes "serving size" is chosen so as to meet a criterion, like bottled "non-fat" bottled salad dressings.
