True, but they serve those nugget things (which are "what's for lunch" today at my son's elementary school), and turkey nuggets would be just as easy to fry. My objection to turkey legs is those tendons. Plus, I don't like them anywhere near as well as chicken legs, which I adore. I think I'll go by Popeye's today. Their "spicy" is pretty good. I just heard on NPR that a blind woman was playing golf in the rain, and she hit a hole-in-one. > > -- > Best > Greg --Bryan |

Full disclosu about twice a year I get an order of 'chicken only, original recipe' as a guilty pleasure, even though the original mixture of spices is long gone. Never touch any of those awful side dishes. -aem |

Same here, original recipe bucket or box of chicken. There is no KFC near my house any more, I wonder how far I have to go to find one. As I recall, the cole slaw had and appeal of its own. nancy |

I do prefer the cole slaw and chicken from Chicken Delight a different chain. Perhaps there is a popeyes or some other chain you would like better than KFC in your area. It is that the food coloured ground slaw and the instant mashed spuds turn me off. Plus the lack of flavour in their chicken has turned me off KFC. The 'Irish Spring' green of their slaw I find truly disgusting. Chicken Delight uses shredded veggies and a oil based dressing in their slaw. You can actually see some carrot shreds. And they use a little garlic seasoning in their chicken batter. I can forgive them on the instant mashed spuds, because I prefer fries with my fried chicken so it affects me not. But nobody has touched upon the gastly thing KFC calls chicken gravy. A must for me ...my Chicken Delight gravy goes on my Chicken Delight fries. -- The house of the burning beet-Alan It'll be a sunny day in August, when the Moon will shine that night- Elbonian Folklore |

I saw them at their table later, and they had chicken nuggets, chili, lots and lots of packs of saltines, a big chocochip cookie, and one lady had both one of those giant 3 serving Arizona Iced Teas in a can, AND a "fountain drink". |

Well, as long as greggy is gonna cross-post: 1. Don't any of you people eat at Brown's Chicken? Or did they go out of business? 2. The last time I had good chicken from KFC was in 1967, in Canada. It was not as yet called Poulet Frit de Kentucky. 3. KFC sides have been nasty reconstituted shit since at least 1970 4. Popeye's spicy is decent except when it isn't. |

I wish we'd get a few of those mom&pop burrito joints here. I hear ya, Bryan. I left Chicago and the working world more than 2 years ago and settled in southern TN. Although I have discovered a whole new sea of foods and cooking styles, I miss real mexican food and the abundance of it. Voicing that, *quite* a while back at a cookout here, some friends individually took me to a couple of mexican restaurants within a day driving distance. They were owned by mexicans, mexicans did the cooking, but the food was totally toned down until it was one step above Taco Bell. I tried to be as gracious as possible to my hosts, but I really wished I could get a bag of carne asada tacos, all cilantro'd up, and pass them around. |

Sounds like Applebee's in Antioch, CA. That being said, I'm going to stick my neck out and sing the praises of Applebee's as a chain. They're dependable, they're available, they offer good service and a selection of palatable food, and they have a full bar. They aren't as quasi-hip as T.G.I. Friday's, but they'll certainly do in a pinch. Geoff -- "Frank, bring me a ball-peen hammer and your skull." |

In Memphis, you can get the real stuff. Taqueria Guadalajara. A taco there is a taco. Two 6" soft corn tortillas topped with asada, onions and cilantro (I always say, "No cilantro"). I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. There's also a taqueria inside a mercado on Getwell (TN-176) just a few blocks south of I-240, on the west side of the street that was also excellent. The Brooks Museum is also quite nice. It's no Art Institute, but for its size it's a real gem. http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocalMaps...jara-Area.html --Bryan |

Actually, there are some brands of instant mashed potatoes (hazy here..betty crocker potato buds?) from which you can crank out a accptable batch of mashed. The "just add water" ones taste as bad as KFC, but the ones where you add your non-dried dairy (butter, milk) are fine by me, especially if you add your own finely chopped green onion and roasted garlic... Yes, last time I went to Applebee's I ordered a portobello/chicken sandwich and was reminded loudly that it was the Weight Watcher's Chicken and Portobello sandwich. It was tasty. No complaints. > Like any other chain, the quality of the shop depends on the quality > of the franchisee. From what other people have said, Applebee's must vary much more than I would have thought. ![]() "Bobo Bonobo®" > wrote in message oups.com... Man, I appreciate that, Bryan. I see it's on Winchester, so easy to get to and don't have to lock the doors. Have to drag my narrow ass away from Blues City Cafe next time and do that. though I do love the catfish sandwiches and ribs over there. I'm gonna ping you in stl.general soon so we can get off the cross-post. |

Gosh, poor peteinchicago. Really, I don't know how you can look at those mashed potato bowls. Gravy on corn? Ick. Corn mixed in anything: ick. Corn on chicken? Ick. Are you getting the idea here? Yes, I know everything's mixed up once it's inside your tummy, but that doesn't mean I want all the flavors mixed up to begin with. The concept is totally unappetizing to me. N. |
