Yes, she said if it bothers me to stop eating it -- isn't this the old
joke?

Look at the bright side, at least she didn't just prescribe some pill
that winds up causing a whole different set of problems. I'd rather
modify my behavior than start with that.

I understand having a Cellulose sensitivity, but with me, at least I can
eat a small amount of raw veggies. If I pig out on them I will get ill.
Raw broccoli especially.

But pigging out is bad anyway so I can live with it. ;-)

Have you tried digestive enzyme supplements and not drinking a lot of
liquids with meals?

I knew a body builder that had digestion problems that he tracked to low
stomach acid levels so he had trouble keeping weight on. HIS problem
tho' was that he drank in excess of 3 gallons of water per day. ;-) He
drank so much with meals, his digestive enzymes were too diluted out to
digest his food.

Yes, I have tried all the enzymes for a number of years. In the last year I
used a regime of Life Extension's d-limonene for a couple of weeks
every-other-day, then off for a couple of months. It didn't work for me,
but helped DH. He doesn't take anything, but does get GERD sometimes.

"D-limonene, has been shown to provide fast-acting, long-lasting relief from
gastric distress. D-limonene is thought to coat the esophagus and guard
against caustic stomach acid, while helping to reduce the amount of gastric
juices regurgitated into the esophagus." It's from LifeExtension.

I'm BACK on Prilosec since April. Not that I like to be, but Dr. says it is
more harmful to upchuck acid, than take Prilosec. That's debatable AFAIC,
but for the time being, my life is bearable as far as that goes.

Hm. The supplements I was talking about are taken with meals.

I just switched back from Pepsid to Zantac and just increased the dose.
I keep Rolaids on hand to put out the "fire" as needed too.

I feel your pain. Literally. ;-)

I have a hiatal hernia which is probably not helping but surgery is OUT
unless it gets really bad!

Losing weight would not hurt me either. :-( Easier said than done.

Surgery is always out for me -- When I was getting a blood test Friday, the
desk clerk asked this woman probably in her 80's when she was going in for
surgery -- she actually smiled when she gave her the date. Unless it would
be a life or death situation, I couldn't smile, then I'd have to force it.

Losing weight? Well, this little stint with the counter-tops/eating out has
left me no doubt a few pounds over -- I 'will not' get on the scales for at
least a week of eating decently. DH has admitted a gain.

Today it's been fruit and tea -- by choice. I'd be dead in a month if I had
to eat out every day.

No kidding...

I'm considering periodic fasting.
One of my favorite Docs that advises me on nutrition does that.

It's not a bad practice.

I love the Oxo spinner - worth the money, and the outer bowl can
double as a giant mixing bowl.

I wash chicken thoroughly, then pat dry with old dish towels.

I cut up some cheap dish rags too for washing fruits, etc.

I try to wash or peel all produce. I store most produce in those green
bags. I came home from a two week trip and some romaine was still in
good shape, and I'd bought it a week before I left.

What do you use to remove wax from, say, peppers?

Oh tell me about that. My MD says I should drop about twenty pounds.
I've decreased the junk food and increased the exercise yet I'm stable
at my current weight, I haven't gained or lost.

Yes, at first thought one would think that there is real concern for the
patient, but the cynical self takes over.

The best doctor I ever had in my life, said to me " First do not harm" when
she was explaining a procedure. With her, I felt the sincerity. What a
moment!

Not to be a spoil sport, but I have that Oxo and couldn't wait to get it.
The problem being is immersing the top in water. I think they say to 'wipe
it clean.'
Whut?

I've seen Jacques Pepin say on one of his shows that peeling them reduces
the bitterness in the green pepper, but is is this bitterness that probably
so many people like.

I had stopped using green peppers which I used to love so much. Recently I
started using them again and peeling them. You don't have to peel down into
every little crease, but there is a slight difference in taste.

If peppers have wax on them, I don't buy them.

Same here. What I would like to do, is lose 20 pounds without diet or
exercise. So far, that has not been successful. <g>

I was actually pleasantly surprised when I stepped on the bathroom scale
last night for the first time in a month after posting this.

I was down by 6 lbs.

But I've been making a real effort to behave lately.

I lost 50 lbs. 2 years ago but gained 30 of it back.
I'd been maintaining there ever since.

You're lucky. I can't handle just having liquids. It's really a mental
thing.
Bring in the straight-jacket again ;-)

<smiles>

Believe it or not, sometimes fasting is easier than making food choices.

It's almost seductive.

I have a peck of apples here. I didn't know that about apples. I thought it
was just celery.
Wonder if I get started now, how much I'll weigh in the morning :-))

How does one flame the skins off on a modern-day cooktop (not induction.)

Yes, I agree. You can say "NO" each time you start to open the refrigerator
door, but it only counts the last time when you finally do.
Now that is true seduction. (Or is it foreplay?) I forget.

Good, because it's false. Apples are pretty loaded with calories. There
are a few things that might fall into that category, but these lists
chock full of tasty fruits are BS.
