As I was jabbing my corn on the cob with my little
metal cornholders, I remember I ordered new ones that haven't arrived. Right there, in front of the soon-to-be old ones, I mentioned I'd ordered their replacements! What was I thinking. A couple of bites in, the left hand corn holder took revenge. Escaped from the end of my cob and jabbed into my cheek. Now I know how the corn feels. nancy |

Available from the Grossery sto http://www.fantes.com/images/13105corn.jpg Funny, when I did a search to find these, I never realized there were SO many kinds of corn holders! :-) I rarely use them. I just let the ear cool off enough to handle with my fingers. If it's too hot to hold, it's too hot to bite! Dad likes to use them tho' as he still butters his corn sometimes. I've gone to eating it plain now. I used to butter and salt it too. I've learned to like it without even salt, especially the yellow/white mixed color ears. A neighbor was growing squash plants, and grilling the ripe squashes on an inexpensive enameled charcoal grill for outdoor dining. After the season, he converted that part of the garden to another crop. The grill was tucked away in a corner of the yard and forgotten. When the neighbor next checked the grill, months later, it had partly rusted, weakening the sheet metal and making it unusable. What made it more unusable, though, was that somehow an outlier or rogue squash vine had developed, near where the grill was stored. Maybe from a stray seed. This plant produced long tendrils and stalks. By the time the neighbor discovered it, these had wrapped firmly around the metal of the grill and gradually tensed so that they had actually crushed and torn the weakened sheet metal, all but destroying the grill, wreaking revenge.
