Default Kitchen "gadgets"

I ran across this website this morning when searching for a pic of the
corn holders we use. It's got a lot of fun stuff on it. :-) The Ice Cube
molds alone are worth a look:

Please nobody hate me for posting this? <G>
I try to resist more kitchen junk, but it is a lot of fun sometimes...

Om,

More fun than the website, as convenient as it is, is to visit the store in
the Italian market in South Philly.

Talk about a Taurus in a china shop!!!

Everything on the website is CRAMMED onto shelves and the staff knows where
every little thing is hiding! ))

Run by Goddesses!

But I don't live there. :-(

They closed down my favorite kitchen gadget shop at the outlet malls
here a few years ago.

<giggles>

I was more interested in the ice cube tray molds, but some of those corn
strippers are interesting. :-) So is the asparagus peeler!

Next time you're in town!!!

They had two satellite stores at two malls but they didn't last long. One
that was at the Springfield Mall nearby me even had a coffee section with
fresh brewed coffees of all kinds for purchase. The place smelled GREAT and
so did the mall for 50 feet coming or going past the entrance! I think it
backfired in that passers by could buy a cup from a walk-up window without
entering the store. Most folks who didn't know Fante's forté probably
assumed they were only in the coffee biz.

A pity.

In stores I have seen ice cube trays that make cubes for
water bottles, amuses me. Cylindrical shape that fits through
the bottle opening.

Its an interesting part of town especially if you are into cooking and
real food. There is the Italian street market (where Fantes is located)
and within a few blocks are the best Pho, Mexican and Middle Eastern
restaurants in town, a great bakery that makes real baked goods and the
touristy dueling cheesesteak places.

Those were on the website but I've never seen them here.

I thought it was a rather cool idea. :-)

Om,

The Italian market is supposedly the longest running open air food market
in the country. There ARE lots of specialty food stores hidden there behind
the sidewalk vendors, so that may or may not be accurate.

No glitz whatsoever.

It can be a traffic nightmare (one way, one lane of traffic and two curb
lanes of short term parking). Supply trucks and larger buyers will jump out
and deliver or grab food orders, stopping traffic for minutes at a time.
It's definitely an exercise in patience during business hours, but I guess
that's Foodbiz for ya!
