Thanks, Dora, I'll remember to try 8 ... I don't know what went wrong,
but I'm distracted at the moment, and I would like to get on for the
weekend.

It's hard to get to... at least for me. I never made the
jump from IRC to MIRC.

There is no jump.

Mirc is a way to get to IRC. Not a jump.

It is still going strong. Mirc is still probably the best client there
is. Download it he www.mirc.com

See ya there!

The jump is "the way". It used to be plain IRC. Now it's
MIRC and there is a gap that I've never managed to forge.

What do you mean IRC was easy but mIRC isn't? mIRC is IRC. mIRC is just
the name of a piece of software to access IRC. What the heck are you
talking about?

No.

Mirc is just one of several ways to get to IRC. You are confusing
Mirc with IRC, and it is just a client. Not IRC. IRC is short for
Internet Relay Chat and it is a host of several networks. Mirc is just
one program that enables you to get there.
There are several other programs/clients to get to IRC. Search around
for them, if you are interested.

If I get back up to the bay area, I could show you easily.

I just thought of an analogy.

IRC is a network, and one has to use a program/client to access it. A
lot of people use Mirc, but there are others as well.

Same as the newsgroups/usenet. I use Agent, but others use other
programs. Same type of idea.

Does it click now?

Or do you just not want to learn to use a program to access IRC?

you have it wrong... irc stands for Internet Relay Chat. there are quite a
few different networks that you can connect to using client software.
christine's analogy about usenet was a good one. you use a client software
to connect to a usenet server, agent, outlook express, netscape, mozilla and
there are plenty of other clients. you use client software to connect to an
irc server as well mIRC, pirch, zircon, snak, BitchX, iirc etc... so mIRC is
just the name of a the client software that you are using to connect to an
IRC server. plus, mIRC is one of the easiest clients out there to use. maybe
you should try reading the HELP section.

You're not an idiot, sf. Have you gone to
