Connoisseurs go mad for £1,000 ham
Pure Iberian porker's leg at a price you can't afford
By Lester Haines
Published Tuesday 11th September 2007 10:40 GMT

Aficionados of pure Iberian ham are apparently fighting to get their
laughing gear round one of the few legs of 2006 Alba Quercus Reserve - a
jamón ibérico puro hewn from acorn-fed* porkers and cured for two years
- which goes on sale next year at a reserve price of £1,000 a leg.

LOL! Did you win the lottery? If so, you're on...
The weather is ideal here in Sunny South Africa for braai-ing (grilling)
at the moment.

If I'd've won the lottery, I'd be stepping off the plane with a couple tons
o' pig!

Sheol and I paid $350/kg for some jamon iberico a few months back. We only
bought 100g. Whilst I wouldn't pay $35 for a few slices of ham on a
regular basis, it was totally worth it to see what all the fuss was about.
It melted in the mouth and was sweet and nutty - tasted a bit like sesame
seeds. When the shop guy sliced it, he gave us the scraps to taste, as he
said it was too precious to be wasted

I got some at The Spanish Table when we went up to Santa Fe before the
NM Cook-in. Prices weren't that high...

It's served by shaving it translucently thin.

You can probably get a thousand people to pay £4.95 each
for a few slices, and have plenty left over for the best
carbonara ever.
