They're finally bringing low sodium soups to market. I just saw a commercial
for it. I wonder if it will cost more to dump less salt in their soup. Off to Campbells website to compare ingredients. Andy |

Cream of mushroom and chicken noodle. They really were low in sodium, tasted like sh** and were 3 times the price of the regular soup. And they were not condensed to give you a better deal. It's going to take some convincing that they really have figured it out. In the meantime, I make soup myself. -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. Campbells can't make soup!!! Sodium is tricky, given the serving sizes and condensed or not. The new 25% Less Sodium is based on the Classic Chicken noodle soup but it seems that the Low Sodium is lowest of them all. Calories do jump around a little as well. I can't begin to guess the difference between "Chicken Noodle," "Chicken with Noodles" and "Chicken with Egg Noodles" soups. Andy 25% Less Sodium Chicken Noodle Soup Nutrition Facts Amount Per Serving (serving size) = 1/2 cup condensed Calories 60 Sodium 660mg Low Sodium Chicken with Noodles Soup Nutrition Facts Amount Per Serving (serving size) = 1 can Calories 160 Sodium 140mg Campbell's® Chunky™ Healthy Request® Chicken Noodle Soup Nutrition Facts Amount Per Serving (serving size) = 1 cup Calories 120 Sodium 480mg Select® Chicken with Egg Noodles Soup Nutrition Facts Amount Per Serving (serving size) = 1 cup Calories 110 Sodium 990mg Classic Chicken Noodle Soup Nutrition Facts Amount Per Serving (serving size) = 1/2 Cup Calories 60 Sodium 890mg |

Its just too easy to make great soup yourself. George, I'm waiting for it to be split-pea soup season. My all-time favorite soup!!! I could live on that soup alone! Well there's always gumbo which I learned back in March. Probably time for another batch. Not too sure about gout vs. shrimp/crab/sausage gumbo. :| Three no-nos in the same bowl!?! Andy |

Campbell's substitutes Potassium Chloride in their Low Sodium V-8 and that stuff actually tastes really good... but the price is assinine and not very affordable. If it was the same price or close to their regular price at least, it'd be a regular part of my diet. I LOVE low sodium V-8 but cannot afford it! It is made by Campbell's. Using a pressure cooker, stock is too easy to make. I've not purchased canned or cubed stock/broth in a very long time, but I have freezer space to spare... Hell, I've ended up with extra stock to give away! Lynn is always happy to accept it. I've been eating low sodium for so long now, I've become rather sensitive to salt. It's a real pain if I try to eat at "chain" restaurants such as Olive Garden and that ilk. <sigh> Now I need to learn to make my own low sodium V-8 affordably. <g> -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. I threw away my salt shaker years ago. I don't use salt substitutes like Mrs. Dash. I still have a box of kosher salt from about 4 years ago probably 3/4 full. I use salt for my split-pea soup. Without it, it tastes bland. I saw the other brands they own. Pepperidge Farm came as a surprise. > <sigh> > > Now I need to learn to make my own low sodium V-8 affordably. <g> To go with that low sodium vodka distilling out back and low sodium celery growing in the garden? ![]() Andy |

I've been able to get low-sodium Campbell soups for a long time. But I generally don't buy soup, except for tomato. N. |

We go thru a pound of "Real Salt" maybe every couple of years. It is a necessary addition to home made soups, but at least _I_ get to control the quantity to taste! I still keep a salt shaker on the table and next to the stove, but they don't need filling very often. ;-) > > I saw the other brands they own. Pepperidge Farm came as a surprise. Really? Hm. Not here. The "No Salt Added" store brand canned veggies are the same price as the others. The Brand name ones (Del-Monte etc.) I'm not sure about. I don't generally get them if I can get store brand. > > I've been able to get low-sodium Campbell soups for a long time. But > I generally don't buy soup, except for tomato. > > N. Ditto here. I don't buy tomato soup either. I can get no salt added canned tomatoes and tomato paste and use those instead. -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. I agree with that. :-) If I'm sick tho', I don't get canned soup. I send dad to the local chinese restaurant for take out Hot and Sour soup. It's the best on popcorn. The powdered variety? I just use Diamond Crystal popcorn salt on popcorn (which I make most nights) and on nearly everything else. I dislike coarse ground salt. --Bryan |

Estimating, it is about 12" long x 6' high by 6 thick. A nice chunk, beautiful! Everytime I mention it to the Mennonite gals that work there that it is so nice they have a display -- it actually is hidden 'behind' the salt for sale -- they are surprised that it is there. It's also possible to purchase actual giant cube shaped salt crystals in some places. There is a gift shop in Austin that has "Halite" crystals from time to time after the owners hit annual gem and mineral shows. After one incident where someone placed one in a fish tank, they now post a sign with the crystals warning against that. <G> Not all their crystal customers realized that Halite is salt... -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails.
