Even a big chain like Wegman's had to deal with it. The had a store in a neighborhood where shoplifting was rampant, and guess who made up the vast majority of the customers? The store tried things like packaging 2 green peppers in a shrink wrapped tray, to make them harder to conceal. They knew how many pounds they were putting on display every day, but the data showed half to two thirds being purchased, with the rest vanishing. Guess what happened when they took these measures (larger packaging)? We have our own mini-Sharpton here. He accused the company of "targeting the black community". Wrong. They were targeting shoplifters without knowing who they were, specifically. The only thing they knew was that in this particular store, the majority of customers were black. It didn't matter to the mini-Sharpton that in all their stores, they padlock the frozen seafood and put bars around the cosmetics & pharmacy late at night. He saw only that one store as an insult to the black community. In the end, the store closed, which of course caused an uproar yet again. |

I'll need that information in order to not laugh at your theory. They weren't losing one in 200. They were losing half to two thirds of the inventory, and green peppers were mentioned as an example. > >> They knew >> how many pounds they were putting on display every day, but the data >> showed >> half to two thirds being purchased, with the rest vanishing. > > I didn't even know black people ate green peppers <ducking> > > Clue: People don't steel green peppers any more than they do > bunches of bananas.
