Default I got sick on my own cooking for the first time

I made some chili Sat night but early Sunday morning I woke up due to
diarrhea and then an hour later that's when I really got sick. But
afterwards I felt fine. I used fresh ground beef browned with 3/4 white
onion, canned pinto and kidney beans. The only different was that I use
Hunt's diced tomatoes with sweet onion by accident. Is it possible to
use too much onion? I still have plenty of chili leftover but I'm
reluctant to eat anymore even though It was good (as usual). Could've
been tinted meat?

BTW (ref. 'Browning beef with onions' thread)I added the onion when the
meat just about fully brown but I didn't noticed any water in the meat.

After you combined ALL the ingredients, how long did you cook it for? Lid
on? Lid off?

My guess is that it wasn't your chili at all, but that you picked up a
stomach bug from someplace else - fast food, or maybe even hand to mouth
transfer while grocery shopping.

Lid on = 1 hour
Lid off = 45 mins

Then, I'd say the chili was not the problem, assuming it was actually
bubbling a bit for the majority of that time. There are so many other things
that could've caused digestive problems. For instance, did you accidentally
see any live video of George Bush on TV yesterday? Lose any money betting on
the Mets?

It was bubbling pretty good during this time. Anytime I cook I always
ensure that everything is cook throughly. I rather my food be overcook
then undercook. Watching Bush talk about his 'stay the course' Iraq
policy does make me nauseated but after all these years my stomach is
used to it now. I was disappointed the Mets didn't make it to the
playoffs but I'm glad the Cubs made it.

It seems to be safe then to eat some more chili tonight.

You know something, the night before I ate at Wendy's and then went
shopping for my chili ingredients. But the only fast food place I ever
gotten sick from is Taco Bell, and that was on more then one occasion. I
think it's from leaving the refrain beans out in the open too long.

I was thinking the same thing...

Those little 24 hour "bugs" are not all that uncommon.

I never get sick from Taco Bell.

I have gotten sick eating from the salad bars at Wendy's.

I've not eaten there now for several years.

I will never eat at Wendy's again. DH and his dad go there occasionally;
probably because it's cheap and quick. I know of no other reason.

And yet another good reason not to eat there is the Greenpeace boycott.

If the meat were tinted green, that could have been a problem.

Well I ate some more chili last night and I didn't get sick so it must
have been something else. I was worry for a while that something was bad
with the meat. Look what happen, I got sick (which is unusual...except
for taco bell) Sunday morning then later on I hear about a massive
recall on ground beef.

Holdover from a few years ago. I think it's still valid.
There were some fast food places that continued to purchase Icelandic
fish.

Iceland refuses to use dolphin safe fishing techniques and last I read,
they were also getting back into regular whaling.

A bit of an aside, but I just read an article in the last few days - can't
remember where now -- that women from Iceland have the highest rate of
breast cancer anywhere.

Whaling? Jeez, that reminds me of the 16th century. What's going on?
