Default Whew! Too Expensive For Me !!

It's a combination orange and lemon sizer.

http://cgi.ebay.com/_W0QQitemZ300160071465

$78? That's a bit rich, even for me.

I guess some people really love their citrus.

It's a very expensive fruit caliper. I guess the price is
so high because of it's "antique" value.

Here's a modern version.

Did you buy the one off ebay, btw?

No, I said it was too expensive.

I thought about bidding when the price was low,
but it's more an agricultural tool than a food
tool. It's marginal to my collecting interest.

I guess it's worth the price for the novelty.

Or their oddball kitchen gadgets!

Mark, since you are the antique gadget expert...

Dad's been cleaning out the storage shed and turning up all kinds of
junk. The cast iron trivets are very nice and I can use them, but one
item is a very small copper tea kettle looking thing, but the base is
maybe 8" or so across and there are 6 holes in the lid.

Any ideas?

Seems kinda small for a teakettle.

Sounds like it might be for steaming something,
though it's hard to imagine what.

Perhaps you could put up a picture in abf?

That would be my interest, but $78 seems
awfully rich for that. I suspect the winner
has some professional involvement with the
citrus industry or a citrus museum to pay
that much. And condition wasn't that great.

My third cheese sampling tool arrived today!
The wood handle suggests a mid- or early-19th
century date. Excellent condition, and it's
a little longer than my other ones. Less than
$60, much better deal than that citrus thing.
