It says I'm a keen observer. You should read what she wrote before jumping

My point is that your excuse for not knowing (whatever) about Howard Hughes
was that you dropped history in high school. By saying that, you imply that
you stopped learning about history after that.

I've never looked into restaurant economics. Another aspect is
the price of wine: is twice, thrice or ever more over those in a
liquor store necessary to run the restaurant? There was an
exchange in alt.food.wine recently concerning a visit to "the
best restaurant in the world" ( or clip joint), The French
Laundry in Yountville, CA, where it transpired that even their
wine prices were amazing. The place has general prices that seem
astronomic to me even if I could eat the food without inviting
artery problems! (OK, sour grapes!)

There are other wonderful things about pricing of things like
newspapers. I've been told that advertising fees are such for
major papers that they could just about give the things away:-)
Of course, no-one will admit that!

how much saliva and how much decomposition? is the amount of saliva
clinging to a fork or spoon really that powerful? it ain't
hydrochloric acid.

i would agree that the practice should be avoided for foods you intend
to keep for a long time, but that's more a concern about 'germs,' not
some kind of enzyme action.

(n.b. i have no experience with baby food, babies, or food made from
babies.)

The Food Network in Canada relays his British shows unexpurgated. That's

I never took African history. In school, I did well to get thru US and West
Virginia history. But now it is my favorite subject (other than cooking.)
Little did I know at the time and not until 50 years later that my families'
names were laced throughout the books.
Those snooty history teachers.

Born and raised in US and proud of it, too. I think it's great to have a
pride in country; no matter where.

Right, I understand that. I was referring to your remark about the constant
stream of violence on N.Am TV.

I don't mind his language -- it's Ramsay -- he couldn't communicate as well
without those expletives. Although I saw him on Larry King and he got by
just fine without them.

If this definition is the one that CC is using:
noun: someone who is regarded as contemptible

I don't think you qualify. -- Yet.

Sorta.
The closest I ever got to Star Trek -- is that the name -- was a comedy show
where they roasted Shatner.

Good grief, Dee. You never watched Star Trek? I am sure it was right
after the Howard Hughes Show...

Yeah, it's politically incorrect to point out that being ignorant of history
is a bad thing.

We're not done till it's done, Cathy.

America has a president who is ignorant of history. In 1898, we went to war
with the wrong country, and did the same thing in Vietnam. Bush repeated the
mistake, and people who love him haven't noticed a thing. This is what
happens when voters make a conscience choice to stop learning.

You can draw a direct connection between ignorance, and being responsible
for the deaths of almost 4000 of our soldiers.

Ahem. *I* don't have a vote in the USA, so I didn't have anything to do
with Bush being made President.... so, you are telling me all this...
why? Write to your Congressman, or something. You might get more feedback.

My accountant visited Texas recently, accompanying her hubbie to a
convention. She was amazed that the other wives didn't know that the US$
had dropped in value and they also gave her blank stares when she mentioned
the sub-prime mortgage crisis.
And these were supposedly educated women!

Does that give you a free pass to stop learning? I never thought of South
Africa as a backward country in that way.
