I didn't know the secret. I always get a bunch of the regular
sized bars, not those no-fun size. That always gets the kids
jazzed, They have the Big Candy Bars! Amuses me.

This year I picked up a box of assorted regular size bars. Who
knew how much fun that would be ... watching kids go into brain
freeze at having to choose which kind. Breathe! Breathe in!
Shocked into silence, then, I don't know what to pick!

Since I have upwards of 70 candy bars, I am happy to say,
take two, since I doubt I'll get over 20 trick or treaters.

nancy, easily amused.

I did that one year. Little brats coming back several times ruined it for
everybody.

That's a shame. I always overbuy, then I get hardly any kids.
Severe fear of running out motivates me to get so much.

The neighbors gather up the goons and goblins and witches in the BMWs and
Mercedes and drop in.

Not that that's a bad idea but the fun is kinda/sorta worn out of the
occasion.

I usually overbuy too, but for the last several years there have been very
few trick or treaters (dead end street). This year I decided I wasn't going
to buy anything, but changed my mind on the way home from work. Went to 3
different stores looking for bargains. Bought a couple of bags of mini
chocolate bars at the drug store and since it was close, fought my way to
the dollar store. Yikes, lots of little ghosts and goblins at the mall.
Anyway, bought 30 packaged licorice twizzlers for a dollar then headed back
to Zellers where I had parked. I couldn't believe it. Zellers were
selling the same twizzlers for for $4.97. Unreal!! e.

This year we added bubbles, jelly bracelets, balsa flyers, and bouncy balls
to go with our candy loot. My kids are excited.

We haven't had any kids around in years, so this year we didn't bother
getting anything. We have half a case of Coke, so if there is a sudden
change in pattern we will just give them a can of Coke.

That's as annoying as the church vans that take kids from poor areas
to nicer neighborhoods. Last year they picked our block. Luckily I
saw them pull up. Not one van, but 3. LOADED!! I turned the lights
off, bolted the doors, and closed the blinds. They alone would have
wiped my candy supply out. I spent a couple hours cleaning the garage
so the bell didn't drive me crazy.

What really struck me was parents going out with teens for Halloween.
It's a different world than the one I grew up in.

Big budget, Woman! I got a deal on the bags of fun size -- 2 bags
(15-18 pcs per) for 3 bucks. I was jazzed. I'm saving the
Butterfingers for last, hoping they'll be mine. :-)

(laugh) Yeah, it's only once a year, I get a kick out of the kid's
reaction. Worth the price of admission, as they say. It wasn't all
that much, really, since I had a coupon, and much of the candy is
left over. I'll be eating Mars Bars till spring.

Heh, there you go. I suppose I could give it all away, but I
can't imagine any charity that doesn't get too much leftover
candy already. No big deal, I'll just freeze some, stick the rest
in the closet.

I came close to running out. I bought asst. Ferrara Pan candies. The 25
cent packs. Started out giving out three to each kid, then two then one.
Then got into the little packs of Swedish Fish and the Sour Patch Kids they
came with. Put several handfuls of those in the cauldron. And it's a good
thing because I don't have much of anything left now and one more kid came
to the door. Bought the Swedish Fish to have on hand in case I get a hypo.
(I'm diabetic), but I didn't need nearly that many for myself.

I seem to be getting a lot of "kids" this year that are as tall as me or
taller. They've got no bags of any kind and often no costume. They just
want the candy.

I think some of them remember me from years past. This is the first year
I've given out candy in some time. We normally give out toys. Stuffed
animals and rubber ducks are always really popular. I think I'll go back to
the toys next year. Daughter was just excited that she found a candy she
wasn't allergic to so I told her we could get some.

Yeah. Age 11 was the last year I was allowed to go. I was 12 in the 7th
grade and that was Jr. High in those days. My parents said I was too old.
Now I'm getting adults coming to my door and they're the Trick or Treaters!

I miss the halloweens of my childhood when homemade treats were safe and
the preferred offering. My mom almost always made real caramel coated
apples rolled in chopped nuts, or caramel popcorn balls. Folks on our
neighboring streets did likewise, offering cupcakes, brownies, or some
other homemade goody, or gave full size candy or quarters. One elderly
lady, of whom most of the kids were suspicious (they though scary), would
dress as a witch. She decorated her basement like a haunted house and
would invite small groups of trick or treaters in to explore and bob for
apples. It was a custom in our neighborhood that kids were enticed to
perform some little thing like a halloween song or poem in order to
retrieve their treat. Those were fun times and fond memories. As I'm now
thinking about it, it's hard to believe that it was more than 50 years ago.

We didn't get a single trick-or-treater, but we rarely get many, if
any, because of where we're situated. Next year, I may put up lawn
decorations and signs and stuff so people will know we're here.

(whispering) Costco. (laugh) But I did see similar things at my
local supermarket. Mine was Nestle brand which had Butterfingers
and Baby Ruth, etc. The store carried Hershey brand assortment.

Another great idea. That was fun for me, getting different kinds of
candy ... then you went home and sorted it.

Where I live, the kids go from house to house on golf carts. They did
that in my older neighborhood, too. The difference being, 90% of the
people in my old neighborhood back in Texas were white. Now, I live in
a neighborhood that is 90% black. Since we are white, I told my husband
we have to keep a really nice looking yard since we are representin'
white folks. He laughed, he has a good sense of humor.

Us, too. :-) We got thirty bars for something like eleven dollars.
And since we didn't get one trick-or-treater, we're set for a
goooood, lonnnnng time with the candy. :-)

My nephew (who is 17 and 6'5", but has the heart of a child) called
me last night to tell me how many pieces of candy he got. Something
like 214. He was very excited. It was very cute.

There you go, me too! Unless I send mine to Kate.

Since it's a little tradition with me, giving out full size candy bars,
I wind up buying my candy there (Costco) as the supermarkets near me
don't offer them any more, only the fun size. Used to be you could get
the 6 pack larger bars, no more.

I think that's cute, that he calls you up for a laugh.

I know. I used to think the "C" word was Camping.

It seems the church should just plan their own party of some sort for
those
children? That might even be more fun! ; )

Ah, that serves me right. I rarely shop. Hubby just said costco
always carries it, but he hasn't gone there in a while and didn't buy
the candy there. Remind me earlier next year, so I can tell him to go
get some bags of full sized candybars.

I know. That's what I thought. But now I know the "C" word is Chili.

The "F" word is even worse. At first I thought it was "fire
extinguisher." But as usual I was wrong. I've learned. Now I know
now that it's when you attempt to brown 4 pounds of ground beef in a
pot because you don't have a cast iron skillet and then cover it with
4 inches of water.

Default Halloween laugh

A cabbie picks up a Nun.

She gets into the cab, and notices that the VERY handsome cab driver
won't stop staring at her.

She asks him why he is staring.

He replies:
"I have a question to ask you but I don't want to offend you."

She answers,
"My son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been
a nun as long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about
everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I
would find offensive."

"Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me."

She responds,
"Well, let's see what we can do about that: #1, you have to be single
and #2, you must be Catholic."

The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I'm single and Catholic!"

"OK" the nun says. "! Pull in to the next alley."

The nun fulfills his fantasy, with a kiss that would make a hooker
blush.

But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.

"My dear child," says the nun, "why are you crying?"

"Forgive me but I've sinned. I lied and I must confess, I'm married and
I'm Jewish."

The nun says, "That's OK.
My name is Kevin and I'm going to a Halloween party."

We bought seven cases of Crush assorted soda. It's our second year in
the neighbourhood and we could hear kids as they were approaching "I
told you! This is the pop house!"
The kids that like it like it a lot.
