Dulce De Leche recipe and storage

A friend of mine told me a very simple neat recipe for this that came
from a restaurant she used to work at. All you do is simmer completely
covered with water for 2-1/4 hours unopened cans of sweetened condensed
milk. I tried this and it works quite well. Serve nice size dollops
with sweetened whipped cream.
Make sure to keep the cans covered with water and to maintain a simmer
while doing this so there is no possibility of a can blowing out. As the
cans are never opened so it should keep just fine.
