I tried to get into the whole "photographing food" thing. I just found it
tedious and the food gets cold! I'd rather eat the food than arrange it and
take photos of it.

And I certainly don't take a camera with me to restaurants (some people seem
to do that) and photograph the food they serve. That's just over the top
IMHO. After all, you didn't cook it!

Heh. That's where cell phone cameras come in handy <g>. I have been
known to take a pic or two of something that was particularly good at a
restaurant...

I almost thought you meant you'll take photos after you ate it...
before you flush it! hehehehe

I usually take photos of food before it's cooked or while it's still
cooking, but not after it's plated... I also don't feel like futzing
around whle my food gets cold.

I'm not much of a photographer of food or anything else, but what a cool
idea! There are folks who enjoy taking pictures of food and others who
enjoy looking at the pictures.

Last summer we were in Fort Lauderdale where we found a French
restaurant we enjoyed and went back to. It was informal, and the tables
were close together. When flashes started going off, we couldn't help
but notice that the couple at the next table was photographing the food.
We didn't mean to eavesdrop, but we were seated so close that some
sort of explanation was in order. The woman explained that her date has
photographed everything he's eaten going back several years and has a
website to prive it. I suppose there are worse hobbies. I'm someone
who cuts up big pieces of fabric into little pieces of fabric, then sews
the little pieces back together into big pieces. One thing quilters
learn is never to make fun of what other people do in their spare time.

Just another opinion :-))
I absolutely love to see restaurant food that others have ordered.

I seem to think about it only after the meal is over.
This month in D.C./Baltimore was my first trip away from my own table for a
long time, and I wish that I had taken pictures.

I didn't even bring my camera to take a picture of the Sfogliatella I found.
I couldn't believe I didn't bring it.

I was just starting to be decent with the old camera when I had to change
cameras. I wouldn't mind sharing photos here, but frankly, people can be so
vicious it isn't very tempting. I know I am not a phenomenal photographer.
Not horrible, but not wonderful.

I'm a creative cook with a deep respect for food. It didn't instantly
translate into fabulous pix. I'm working on it. I figure if it looks good
enough to eat, it must be an OK pic.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. A good food pic can get

Honey, I wouldn't even *have* a cell phone (much less one with a camera in
it) if I had my druthers. But I have to be able to be reached by my parents
when I'm out of town, or now, even when I'm just out of the house at the
store. My father isn't doing well Not well at all.

If I could take decent photos, i.e. they'll buy them to put in a magazine, I
might consider it. But photos of my own food, well, you know how I feel
about that :-D

My digital camera battery crapped out but I have two good 35mm cameras.
Might have to go back to taking non-digital photos - not necessarily of food
LOL But I have a trip coming up in February, and also a cat show to attend!
No flash allowed but the place is sufficiently well-lit for it. Think of
it... hundreds of show-cats in one room. Meow... mew... meow!

Unless you have an unusual digital camera, you may be able to replace
the battery (non-OEM) on eBay quite cheaply...in fact, processing one
roll of print film might make battery replacement a more economical
idea, too.

It's an unusual digital camera. A Sony Mavica FD200 that can store images
on both a 3.5 diskette and a memory card. It requires a special battery,
not just one you can pick up at the local drug store. Frankly, I'm pretty
much getting tired of photography in general. I go through phases. I'll
take photos for a few years, then stop.

I used to take lots of 35mm photos. I have two excellent 35mm cameras. The
problem with those is you have to remember to drop the film off and pick it
up LOL

I wouldn't have recommended eBay for Duracell or equivalent.

http://tinyurl.com/36bt4w

This will set you back no more than $15

That Mavica is a nice widget and one I think is worth saving if you
don't have a higher res digital to replace it.

Also pay for processing and a CD if you want to share photos.

I have several 35mm cameras, all Minoltas, and a medium format
Mamiya, too, but I use a digital SLR these days. I cannot even easily
get the films I like to shoot 35mm...and getting B&W processed these
day is a nightmare. I no longer have any darkroom equipment.

Duracell doesn't make a battery for the Sony Mavica. You can't just buy one
at the drug store. I do have one on order, but this is the last time I'll
do so.

I can adjust the resolution on this. But frankly, I don't take enough
photos to warrant it.

Processing costs are neglible. But then, I don't need 1 hour photos. And
I've never had one burned to a CD. There's no point. I can scan digital
photos at home and of course if I have film processed I can use my scanner
to do the same thing.

If you go to a one hour photo place (think Robin Williams, 'One Hour Photo')
like that, you can expect inferior film processing at a premium price. I've
still got a couple of 35mm rolls of film never developed from at least 10
years ago. It would be amusing to find out what's on them. But since
they've been sitting here for 10 years obviously they weren't important.

I should amend what I voted. I have a couple of pictures of an apple
bread that I made following the overly-detailed instructions a friend
was writing for her book. It was purrrty. Most of my photos, tho,
are what my photography instructor called "memories"--blurry, out of
focus, and sort of dreamlike.

Ok, Jillsie...let's take it reeeeallll slow...

I KNOW your camera. I KNOW it doesn't take a battery you can get at a
drugstore. I mentioned that, not once, but twice up above.

NOW...what you have is a 2 megapixel camera. That is its maximum
resolution. That is not adjustable. You can adjust the focus, and at
that, only incrementally, and also adjust the focal range, but you
are stuck with the 2 megapixel resolution. It doesn't get any higher.

Sorry, it's adjustable from 2 to 4. Maybe you haven't seen the latest
model. I won't buy another one simply because I don't take photos all that
often. I'll go back to using my Nikon 35mm and taking film to be processed.
Okay with you?

According to you, everything is crap. According to you, no one drinks cold
liquids at breakfast (aka orange juice, grapefruit juice, milk). What does
that say about your opinion?

food photos..... "If I remember". Sometimes I have the best of
intentions, but the bustle of whatever occasion it is that I'm
preparing it for/in overshadows my photo taking. I've often awakened
the following day to the thought of "That was GREAT last night -
dang, no food pictures to post.... again!"

I'm not good enough to do *that*, but it's the thing to do on
vacation. You have a camera with you anyway and you're taking
pictures of other things, so why not photograph the food (or in my
case - wine)?

Wine on the Right Bank of Paris... http://i9.tinypic.com/6kgyw6q.jpg
and wine on the train while going through the Channel (no scenery)...
http://i4.tinypic.com/6oen7yp.jpg - here's some cheese to go with that
wine (Paris' Ile Saint Louis)... http://i12.tinypic.com/8ek4utg.jpg

Plus a cardoon for that special someone - you know who you are!

Once again, I'm lost. You've defined MCINL to death, so I can finally
remember it. What the heck does MDANL mean? If the rest is the same,
then what is AN?

I bring home restaurant menus instead. I often take photos while on a trip
but I don't take my camera out to dinner with me!

Oh, no! I thought these were thistles for the birds. I haunt DH with
"don't pull these up.!" He says, "they take over."

Cardoons? We see these in empty fields near a city and I am very happy
because I think the gold finch will be eating very well - these seeds are
quite expensive to buy -- and then the squirrels always get them first.

Am I that special someone?

I once took pictures in a restaurant. I'd brought my camera in case
the ice surfing boats were on the river, they weren't but the food and
the ice sculptures at the buffet were pretty. I tried to be discreet.
Might do it again this year.

Why would anyone mind you putting their pix up on your site? Weird
that a few people chose that in the survey.

What do you mean saying she didn't cook it... after all with your
collection of menus you must have quite the job resume by now. <eg>

Perhaps some are wise enough to realize that their pictures leave
something to be desired... do you really think that what you produce
should be made public.

Normal brained folks don't mention it's chilly and then mention they
drink chilly beverages... makes one wonder the voracity of their other
stories.Michael Horowitz wrote:

Easy-Peasy... commissaries do this all the time... carefully remove
skin, debone, roll with dark meat on outside, wrap with skin, tie,
season, roast, refrigerate. Next day very easy to slice and serve
with hot gravy.

Lunch and dinner are usually part of the same "outing" for me. I
leave and often don't return to my room until midnight or after.

No offence, but I doubt it will happen.
