I would think that if you drink coffee or tea, those appliances
will be the most often used. The only appliances I have on
the counter, plugged in (and even then they are in an appliance
garage) are the coffee maker and a toaster. Everything else
is put away.

I don't have a "most often used" because I use the mixer, slow
cooker, and Cuisinart equally.

ObSlowcooker: Chili (with beans) are going as we speak!

I take my TFH off to you. Just checked in the kitchen - I have 6 - yes
6... teakettle, juicer, blender, MW, waffle toaster, and the bread
toaster - all just sitting there ready to go LOL!

Oh, I almost forgot the electric wok is there too <ducking and running>
so that makes 7 of them.

My coffeemaker is plugged in constantly and used every morning,
sometimes in the afternoon. We have two microwaves; one is near the
table so that food that's gotten cold can be reheated conveniently.
Were it not for those two items, my food processor would get the
thumbs-up for most use. Lately it's made two large batches of hummus
each week, plus it's used to make banana bread, grind breadcrumbs and
other odds and ends.

The Kitchen Aid stand mixer is also on the counter, ready for use at a
moment's notice, as it has been for the last fifteen years or
thereabouts. It's used less these days as I'm eating fewer carbs...

No -- didn't "see" it; I stuck with MCINL as a result... But I
doubt I'd have picked that one anyway because it was 'hard to
choose.' I use all three equally. Even the coffee maker isn't used
as much as those three and I drink coffee every day all morning.

You know, my 'before' kitchen was so disgusting, so horrible,
that I developed 'clear countertop' sydrome. I designed my
kitchen so everything has a place, even the garbage is built in.
My old kitchen didn't have a place to put anything away.

I've had more than one of "those" kitchens in my lifetime. But luckily,
my current one has *plenty* of cupboard space as well as plenty of
worktop space; therefore I can leave out the appliances I use most
frequently instead of having to haul them out of a cupboard every time I
wanna use them.

I just check my countertop, and the following are all present and ready for
use, but not all plugged in (for safety reasons).

countertop microwave
over the range microwave
coffee maker
toaster
toaster oven (never used for toast)
mini food processor
spice grinder
blender (standard not stick)
malt mixer
stand mixer
large food processor

All of these are used on a regular basis, although not all of them weekly.
Some are used daily.

Cathy, in previous kitchens I've had to store many of these in pantrys or
cabinets due to lack of counter space. Now that I have sufficient counter,
I really enjoy having them at the ready. If you use it and have room, it
should be out.

Here's my all-the-time-on-the-counter for the past few months: Five.

Side by side: Espresso machine, burr grinder, electric tea kettle

Side by side: Microwave, panini grill.

I guess I could take off the counter the panini grill, as it is not used
'every day.' Think I'll go do that right now.

Now: Four -- that changes my vote, I think.

The ones that are plugged in are the microwave, toaster
oven, and food processor. The other's are stored on
the counter and ready to be plugged in - blender, stick
blender, mini blender, juicer, hand mixer.

Don't own a coffee maker (blecch), use an old-fashioned
tea kettle you heat on the stove, don't own a stand mixer,
electric frying pan, or deep fryer (I use a cheap pot
dedicated to deep frying). Waffle iron and slow cooker are
put away in cupboard. As is electric popcorn popper.

Hey, you forgot bread machine and rice cooker and electric
can opener! ;-)

Of Waynes list, thats the only one I have.

I answered 'slow cooker' on the survey as that was the only listed item I
use regular (almost always have something in there)

I have 2 other high use items. Breadmaker and rice maker.

Also have and use often:
vertisserie
small crockpot (main one is large) (cabinet most of the time)

Have but do not use often
Microwave (loaned out to a new neighbor whos waiting for her stuff to arrive
from Rota Spain)
toaster (cabinet)
blender (cabinet)
Dehydrator (garage- used fairly often but no counterspace to keep it out)
T-fal safety fryer

I do not have a coffeepot but we use a teapot on the stove several times a
day.

Agree wholeheartedly; if it makes it easier, why not use it? I
don't understand those that profess to toiling under the sun
(chopping and dicing things by hand) as more preferable to using a
tool that'll do the same thing within seconds. If you have the
patience to dice and cut uniformly, you have the patience to pulse
the Cuisinart.

I like chopping and dicing. I'm happy with a cutting board and a
knife. I have the food processor for big jobs.

Well, I can count and my most commonly used appliance is the
microwave but a lot others run close. All of Blender ('stick' or
regular), Coffee maker, Electric frying pan or griddle, Food
processor, Microwave, Stand mixer, Toaster (bread) get regular
use.

Too hard to choose just one. If my kitchen were on fire I would reach for
the coffeemaker with one hand and the microwave other. (I'd never make it
out the door, but that's irrelevant.)

I love my food processors (I have 2 large ones and a mini), but aside from
original experimentation of the machines capabilities, I have never used it
for chopping up things that *should* be diced. Food processors chop, they
*don't* dice. I like the appearance in dishes of diced onion, peppers,
celery, cucumbers, even tomatoes, and probably some other things. It's
worth the extra time to me to take out a good nice and cutting board and
dice away.

OTOH, food processors make very light work of countless other tasks, and I
would hate to be without one.

A competition? OK, on the counters and ready to go: microwave, toaster oven,
coffeemaker, breadmaker, standing/hand/wand mixers, blender, large/small
food processors.

I'm ashamed of myself.

I've answered "hand-mixer", since the Espresso-machine

(a) doesn't take up working space in my kitchen
(b) is necessary fur survival; all the other choices aren't.

Mostly a matter of style. I just moved from Japan and electric is quite
expensive there. So much so that people 'prefer' when reasonable, to use
manual solutions. I adapted well to this and have not owned some of the
more popular items USA folks use, for several years. Like an electric can
opener (manual ones of good quality work fine for us), electric coffee
pot/water heater (had loaner from the Navy while waiting for our stuff to
arrive but once the teapot got here, we automatically drifted back to our
old teapot habit), mixer (have several types of whisks and hand
beaters/mixers), food chopper (have several manual types for various things
but normally we find it faster and easier to just chop by hand. Less
cleanup).

My blender is a special *small* one and perfect for our rare use at it's
size. Holds 2.5 cups. Has 3 settings and a manual 'pulse'. Takes up
little storage space. I use it to puree soups from the baby crockpot or
make bean gravy from part of the momma crockpot's contents.

Grin, next survey suggestion? What manual items which could be electric, do
you use most?

Possible answers:
Can Opener
Hand chopper (Various types)
Whisk and/or manual beater
Stovetop tea or coffee pot
Pot on stove for rice
Charcol grill (as opposed to propane or electric)
Vegetable peeler
meat grinder
Stovetop Stockpot (as opposed to crockpot)

Second question: Of the above, how many get used at least twice a week?
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9

(I'm a 4 but the only 2 I don't do there is the rice or stock on the stove
excet for the occasonal adobo-chicken stock which is a byproduct of making
my tye of adobo chicken)

No, I haven't posted any yet. Actually, haven't taken any yet, but I
promise to do so after the flurry of the holidays is over. Really, it's
neither luxurious nor anything special, but I like the size and the layout,
and it's fun to cook in. Thanks for asking...

I'm just as bad, if not worse, but I have no guilt or shame. :-)

Had to check which ones were "plugged in" all the time - 6 outta 7. I
swap the juicer with the blender when required (got an adapter block)

Which brings me to another "pet peeve" of mine.... Why don't building
contractors ever install enough plug-points in a kitchen? This kitchen
is the closest I have come to 'almost' enough of them.

Thanks for the cool survey BTW

Looking forward to seeing it. IMHO, the most important room in a house
is the kitchen. I spend a lot of time there, so I might as well have it
the way I like it - as cost effective as possible, of course.
