Default Changes on food nutrition labels?!?

Changes on food nutrition labels?!?

I had a bumble bee fancy albacore tuna sandwich in olive oil with a few
shakes of garlic powder on whole wheat toast for breakfast. Sounds delicious
I know.

I thought I better see if I logged bumble bee into my diet program and I had
it listed but several nutrients changed.

Protein went from 16g to 15g
They added a micro-nutrient Phosphorus: 10%DV)

Wonder how often they can change the labels? When the USDA says so?

Andy

With products like canned tuna, I imagine there's fairly frequent, but
small variation like that. Its not like every fish in the sea has the
same amount of protein, fat, etc. I imagine the makers of canned tuna do
a nutritional analysis every once in a while of their products and make
adjustments accordingly.

In fact, a google search lead me to Bumble Bee's web site. There, they
have a FAQ file which addresses your question about nutritional facts.
The file is at at <http://www.bumblebee.com/faq.jsp#6> and it does a
better job of explaining the situation than I could.

I don't know why the phosphorus was added. I imagine you can call or
write to Bumble Bee's customer relations office to find that out if it
bothers you.

Whenever they change the recipe ? One would assume that the label should
accurately describe the actual contents.

Since tuna doesn't come from a food synthesizing computer, its qualities
will vary. Not quality, necessary. Qualities.

Labels seem to change frequently, especially with some foods like breakfast
cereals. I've learned to check all labels each and every time. We have
food allergies and it's very important that I check these things.

One thing I learned from a baker is that the type of oil used can change,
depending on the price. They might opt to use whatever oil is the cheapest
that week. I imagine this works the same way with other ingredients too.

Here's something from that FAQ of which I'd not heard.

"I found something that looks like glass in my canned seafood, what is it?"
