Default A pre-Christmas irritation

So I went to do some Christmas baking yesterday and guess what -- the
oven doesn't work. The elements (burners) still do.

The landlord came around this morning to see if it was the fuse in the
back of the range that had gone. It isn't, so he's called in a sparky,
who will come round tomorrow to fix it.

We can always borrow DH's mum's barbecue and cook the lamb on that for
Christmas, if the worst happens.

OK, what am I missing here? I thought that you were "a sparky". Can't you
figure out an electrical problem?

I can figure it out (to an extent) but I'm not yet legally qualified to
fix it. Until I am, it's hands off.

She's smarter than that. She's a librarian.

She probably could but why should she deprive the landlord of his
duties?

You missed her reply to mine?

And also miss out on using the oven, possibly until the holidays are over?

Oh, I'm guessing that you *DID* miss her reply, and you also have her
confused with someone else?

I was almost a librarian, but I changed my mind.

I can empathize. One Christmas, lo and behold, all of my
baked things were taking many times as long to bake as they
should have. Nice timing!!!!

Wouldn't it be nice if "Murphy" took a vacation?
These things always happen at the worst possible times... you have my
sympathy.
