Haven't opened anything yet. I hope I don't get any of the above as I
already have:
George Foreman Baby George rotisserie
George Foreman G5 grill (removable plates)
2 coffee makers
Kitchenaid
the paninni is the only one I don't have & the GF G5 can be used to make
them.
If I leave it to other people I'd never get what I want.

I got the KitchenAid hand mixer. I think that completes my set of red
KitchneAid appliances. I didn't really need it, but all of the KA stuff
comes in handy . . .some more often than others. I also got "The Feast of
Santa Fe", by Huntley Dent and "Southwest Flavors Santa Fe School of
Cooking" by Susan Curtis and Nicole Curtis Ammerman. I can't wait to sit
down with those two books.

That would rather depend on how much counter and cabinet space you have. I
have plenty to work with and have about the same number of appliances, just
different ones.

My wife for a coffee machine. She doesn't know why. I think it was because
our old one was pretty shabby looking and I thought a new one would look
nicer.

My cooking present was a nice Jaccard Mandolin. As for consumables, I got
a bottle of Gran Marnier, two bottles of brandy, a box of dark chocolate
wafers and a box od candied stem ginger in dark chocolate.

I hope not. Wouldn't use it anyway.

Another space-taker-upper. Use a real grill. With a real fire.

That might be fun for a couple of weeks, then banished to the unused
gimic-small-applience bin.

Yuck. Coffee is the worst.

Already have 2, with all of the attachments that I'll need

Similar here. We don't exchange gifts for Xmas, and we do avoid malls,
so "Xmas" presents usually involve things bought in October that will
help us avoid all retail outlets for the following 3 months. The
closest thing I got that's cooking or kitchen related is Claudia Rodin's
_Arabesque: A Taste of Morocco, Turkey, & Lebanon_.

I also got _Water for Elephants_, Sara Gruen
_Life Studies_, Susan Vreeland
a collection of Alice Munro short stories
and the first season of Ugly Betty on DVD.

The most interesting is turning out to be _New Sudden Fiction_ edited by
Shapard & Thomas, but that has to go back to the library.

Plus, of course the last Pterry.

Ugly Betty is a ridiculously silly spoof of a soap opera which is in its
second season and has been playing on Thursday nights. Typical for me,
I never get into anything hot and popular until everyone else is over
it. That means I see t.v. when it comes out on DVD.

I'm not even sure I'm recommending it. It's awfully stupid, but it's
just the thing for me when I have these days off and am avoiding malls.
It took me a while to get into it, but now I'm laughing out loud.

I read about Ugly Betty when it was Betty le Fea. Betty le Fea was a
Spanish language telenovela that was so popular and had such a surprise
ending that news of it reached the English language newspapers. A
telenovela is a little like a soap in its characters and themes, but it
runs for a designated time and has a clear beginning, middle, and end.
A few years after its ending, it came out as an English language
television series. Apparently there have been some significant changes.

Here's the web page.

Two Silverstone muffin pans (already made muesli spice muffins)
A red Kitchenaid ladle and spatula
A set of wooden utensils
a self-lifting corkscrew (hey! where's the wine to go with that!)
a very sharp Farberware carving knife
new kitchen shears

None of the above. I'd probably never use the first 3, I don't drink
coffee, and I already have a workhorse Kenwood mixer (a Christmas
present from ~15 years ago). SO got me a box of Fran's chocolate
truffles (mmmm), two cookbooks (on tagines and Sardinian cooking), and
Bill Burford's Heat. I got him clothes (he hates to shop) and a pound
of fair trade coffee that my church was selling to support a
microlending project in Haiti.

My paninni machine is a pair of cast iron skillets - works just fine.
\

Did find Kitchen Aid's handy dandy all-in-one measuring spoon in my
stocking - clever gizmo - shaped to slide nicely into a jar of herb/
spices.

Is the microlending part of an established program? And can others
participate in it? What I've read about micro loans in other areas
sounds really wonderful.

I got a tagine from my daughter and a really good 2 1/2 quart saucier
from D for Christmas. I also got a biography of Marco Polo and a
Modern Lovers tee shirt.

"Road runner, road runner!"

(Spell check wanted "tagine" to be "aggie.")

Didn't get any of those items, but I did score a 10-piece Cuisinart Chef's
Classic Non-Stick Hard Anodized cookware set and matching lasagna pan. I was
also given a very nice cast iron dutch oven and an OXO silicone oven mitt.
I'm a happy camper.

Actually, this is one of the few 'infomercial' products that really works
the way it is advertized. Had mine a couple of years now.

OK. I've always wondered, if the heating coils were on the bottom of the
unit (heat rising and all), I figured it cooks faster.

Also cleaning it up scares me to death.

Hi Andy,
Already got three of the above and I don't need the others. Food
items I recieved: three Cella's chocolate-covered cherries (indulged
in candy for the first time in forever) and three kinds of nuts.

I gave the wife something for which she's been looking for years; a
set of anodized colored measuring spoons found (where else?) on Ebay.
These are about 40+ years old, I think. Too bad someone doesn't make
'em now. I'd like a set in bright colors. But she was thrilled
anyway.

I've had mine for about 8 years and its still working just fine. The
plastic knob on the timer broke last year but an old wrench seems to work
just fine to turn it on.

In the back on the unit, with a spash guard that slides out to clean

About the same as cleaning a toaster oven.

I live in Texas, so one needs to also consider the cost of air conditioning
12 months out of the year.. It uses less energy than an electric oven and
doesn't heat up the house as much. I cook lots of things in it.. Turkey @
Thanksgiving, rib roast yesterday. For new years, a pork tenderloin.. The
basket is great for ribs (better than the rib rack, imo), chicken pieces and
anything else that doesn't fit well on spit.

If we're listing consumables, Santa filled my stocking with lots of decadent
treats, including Trader Joe's wasabi peas, candied macadamias, Belgian milk
chocolate bars, and a solid chocolate Santa Claus. Non-TJ stuff included two
assortments of Jelly Belly's, The Chocolate Traveler bittersweet chocolate
wedges, a Toblerone bar, dark chocolate covered Altoids, and Sour Patch
Kids.

That'll last me until next Christmas (at least)...

Next, I think we should list cookbooks. I've mentioned the Claudia
Rodin, Arabesque that I got.

Out of everything on the first list, the only one I have is an ancient
coffee maker (with a built in timer to turn it on in the morning) -
now you mention a stick blender which I've had for at least 20 years
(after I thought about all the events that have happened since). Wow!
I always think of my stick blender as a "new gadget".

I had deleted your list and went by Andy's OP. I do have a Cuisanart
and an ice cream maker too.... gifts from me to me. I'm reclaiming my
finished basement now that son has his own home, so I think my ice
cream maker will reside down there.
