Well, when she passed away, she left her house and belongings to
me, my sister, and our father, equally. DH & I wanted the house, so
I bought out their shares and even after they took what they wanted
of her stuff, I got the rest. I still have a lot of her cookware,
china, glassware, etc. and I do realize I'm lucky. :-)

Me too!

Nope, 44. As my BIL put it, I only have to remember one number now.
And thank you, it was a good one...

Oh no! It's bad enough to have that kind of thing happen, but even
worse when it's a dish you really like...

Heh! I usually put more eggs in the middle, but I had exactly 15 for a
change. I'm glad folks like the plate... :-)

Or for people like me who always mess up at least one white when
splitting the eggs... ;-)

Thank you, Margaret! It was nice gathering, but unfortunately, Miguel
(DH) got stuck at work and missed it. Still, we had cheesesteaks from
our local place, the eggs, and my stepmother made a lovely chocolate
mousse-type pie for dessert. We had some honey-buttered pretzels for a
snack and played dominoes while we waited for Miguel, but finally we
had to eat without him. After dinner, my Dad took our friend (lovely
lady in her 80's) home, Miguel finally got here, and stepmom and I
went to the local Native casino. I only lost $5... :-)

<snip>

I originally had 10 whole eggs, but one lost most of the white
when peeling, one was cracked before cooking and had a weird shape,
and one half split when I cut it. I just put the extra yolks in the
mix and give the whites to DH and DS -- they love them... :-)

I just wanted to thank everyone for their birthday wishes and
nice comments about my Gramma's egg plate. How interesting that
so many of us have them or something similar! :-)

July 21. I believe that on July 21, 1948 momentous things must have
occurred, but when I sent off for the Indianapolis Star's free
birthday giveaway, it seems that absolutely nothing happened that day.
Well, besides me, of couse.

Well, good then! However, I don't need it yet.
There is nothing so demeaning than a guy putting his big paw under one's
elbow while crossing the street -- manners? yes. But does that hand
under the elbow bide better for him or actually protect the woman?

I'll accept it tho. I'm no libber. You might hear me yelling, "Don't just
stand there; get the hell over here and open this car door."

On the sad/serious scale, they both probably register about the same. The

somewhere around 1968, i went out on my first date with a girl from
richmond. we walked out to the car, and i got in, and then noticed
she was standing outside the car, waiting because i had failed to open
the door for her. i finally figured out what she was up to, so i
turned on the radio. after a minute or two, she got in, fuming.

probably the last battle of wills with her that i won.

My prior statement stands. Absolutely nothing happened on July 21,
1948 with the exception of my birth, which may explain all the other
non-events. My birth was too much for one date in history to stand <g>
I mean, the noted birth on that date (besides mine) was some guy I
never heard of named Art Hindle of Nova Scotia who had a stage name of
Jeff Dallas, who I also never heard of. And the noted death on that
date was another guy I never heard of, Arshile Gorky, who my artist
daughter might have heard of, but is unknown to me.

And the second website added a birthdate for Garry Trudeau and the
start of some radio station in Toldeo OH.

OTOH, that does ramp up my chances of a mention in the "On This Date
In History" blurb in the LA Times...

You are in the league with this birthday guy, even though he was a
