Default Kumquats

Sally and I have been married for over twenty years and ever since day one
she has been telling me about the Candied Kumquats she made in her youth
(Before Marriage). They only show up on rare occurrences in the stores so
we never get to buy them, not the right time or something. Soooo, I decided
to put her on the spot, I mailed ordered Kumquats, 10 lbs of them ($26).
Well, we have had Kumquat salad, Kumquat Chicken, some are getting
preserved, but we still have Kumquats!! Anybody have good Kumquat recipes!!

Doug

Have a big party and put a large bowl of kumquats out with the rest of
the nibble food... I don't really know. When I was a child, they were
used purely as decoration. I had no idea that you can acutally eat
them and cook with them. Kumquat may, you will find a use for them...

I like to eat them just out of hand as a snack.

You mentioned preserved. You might also think of Kumquat Marmalade. They
can also be treaded as a sweet pickle in syrup, or is that what you meant
by preserved?

I've had a gingerbread candied kumquat cake from epicurious.com. It was
very good, but I don't think what you're looking for. Entering kumquats in
the site's search, a number of recipes came up, you might want to look those
over. Just a thought.

No, but if you go to rec.food.preserving and ask, you may
get a few.
Someone there just mentioned his wife making jam or marmalade.

Your $26 for 10 lb. was a real bargain. I saw them in the
grocery store
a few days ago for $6.99/lb.

Yup, that where they came from, those are some of the recipes we have
tried.
Thanks, Doug

I like to munch 'em straight up. We've also used them in recipes,
mostly spur-of-the-moment improvs. Kumquat salsa. Kumquat pieces in
salad. Lamb in a reduction sauce, spiked with kumquats.
