Default Potato gnocchi

Some "experts" in Italian cooking specify peeling the potatoes and
chopping them up in smallish pieces before boiling, while others make
the point that the potatoes should be boiled in their skins and peeled
afterward.

I've cooked the potatoes both ways and can't tell the difference. Has
anybody any comment on this?
