I do! I hope to visit her part of the world someday. ;-)

Seriously though, I'm surprised at how many people use their full
real name in this group. After a death threat in my early Usenet
days, I stopped using my last name. I have no problem with other
folks using psuedonyms. I don't need their life story, just their
recipe for a good batch of fudge...

Hmmmm perhaps that is what Bully Baraclough is hoping will happen to me. Oh
well, she will have to get the name right first though)

I am afraid Janet Baraclough thinks that she is hurting me in some way. I
haven't figured out yet what she expects to happen but then I don't suppose
lunatics think things through that far

Of course, the sock puppet couldn't POSSIBLY be her............ could it??

One day it is Bully Baraclough trying to out me, the next it is an
anonymous)) They couldn't possibly be connected.......... could
they??????? LOL

I think she has a medical condition and I ought to feel sorry for her. But,
after all the crap I have had from her, I hope she gets locked up in a loony
bin!!

Perhaps John Baraclough would be interested to hear what his wife gets up
to, but of course, he might already know what she is!

I've been there myself, so I understand.

I'm pseudonymous other places (one of which I signed up for when I was
actively being followed around the intarwebs). Enough people know my real
name, etc., etc. (which is on the email I used to sign up with) but the
identifying details are a bit masked in publicly-searchable bits. (I have
an unusual surname, so most of the google hits on first name+last name are
me.)

I can't help you there, I'm afraid. I'm useless at making fudge. My last
attempt turned out more like caramel.

However, all was not lost. I spread it on some shortbread fingers and it
was rather nice! :-D

What Ophelia has neglected to mention is that Baraclough is getting a
similar response to her madness in every group that she posts. No one is in

No, I didn't, nor do I want to.

If you or anyone else really want to thank me, there's a simple way:

Keep your interpersonal drama off RFC
and POST SOMETHING ABOUT FOOD!

(If this were an HTML environment, that last would be 48-point type size
and scrolling.

obFood: Managed to come home with only two extras on a shopping trip to
the Berkeley Bowl, which is pretty amazing considering I usually go into
power acquisition mode. (Serene, your advice on how to avoid waste is
sinking in.)

One of them was lunch - roast beef wrap with a side of chimichurri sauce.
Yum.

I plan to make some more chilaquiles a la Koko, but this time with roasted
delicata squash, beans, and corn instead of the leftover chicken. But I
think I'm going to make a big pot of minestrone first, as I have a large
bag of chard in the fridge and that will clear it out. The squash is
behaving itself on the counter for the time being.

Oooh, oooh.... so if I go to Yorkshire on my next visit to England,
you're up to meeting? Woo, Hoo! Don't fret about cleaning your house
yet, I've got a couple of other vacations in mind before I get back to
England - but don't think I won't return. As Douglas MacArthur
said: "I shall return".

Broccoli, 11 oz.
Navel oranges, 3.5 pounds
Radicchio, 14 oz.

Buy less at once, shop more often, it's ok to wait till you are actually
at the point of running out. Cooking more often helps too .

My new question to myself is "do I really need it or do I just think I
might use it?" and then do a mental inventory of what I've got.

Still throwing stuff out, but far less of it.

My plans for the produce in my fridge:

1) Big pot of minestrone
2) Big pot of spaghetti sauce (think I will try freezing some of either #1
or #2)
3) Produce for mini-quiches (to be frozen for easter, etc., festivities)
4) Frittata-like breakfast bake - potatoes, eggs, egg whites left over
from #3, veggies, cheese (this, like the quiches, adapts to what's around)
5) I might still have a lot of red bells so might attempt muhmarra a la
Tigers and Strawberries

Of course, this means that I will likely get sick and not feel like eating
anything but chicken soup and potstickers.

I am trying to clear the decks for the veg and sign up for the CSA Serene
uses. They offer small/medium/large boxes, so I will start with the small
and see how it goes.

Well said... I've always used my own name, and rarely regretted it.
I ****ed off some jerk some years back, and he diligently dug through
the Usenet archives and found every less-than-savory place I'd been seen
and "outed" me. My only response (not sure why I felt it needed *any*)
was, "And your point is?"

Yeppers.

Been there, done that. I had a cadre of Usenet stalkers (one is still
occasionally active, but his friends have gone on to other things) who
were really desperate to "get something" on me. Once they pulled out some
idiot deciding to flame me on RFC as ""evidence"" that I ""flamed out"" in
RFC. I will note that they didn't have the cojones to xpost it here,
though .

(If I'd felt like dignifying it with a response, it may have been as my
belle-mere said to the flasher: "Is *that* the best you've got?".)

When the most unstable (and most dangerous) of them decided to fire up the
anon remailer and continue her (I think it was "her") "Charlotte Blackmer
deserves rape*" campaign in another group** where I was well-known, the
general reaction was "ha ha HA, Charlotte must have burned your ass good".
It never got repeated. Kooks don't like it when people don't play to
their scripts .

* I'm a survivor, and had been open about it on that group. Unfortunately
for the kooks, if you keep deliberately trying to push my buttons, the
buttons break.

** I'd also made it fairly well-known in the original group that any anon
remailers I knew about were in my killfile there.

ObFood: I had big ambitious plans to cook last night but settled for
unloading and reloading the dishwasher, and putting the pots and pans
away. (And retiring early!) This morning I think I will roast squash
after my breakfast.

Can't, or won't?

>If you were being attacked in this way, how long could you
>restrain yourself from defending yourself?

Do a google groups search on my full name as a phrase - both with and
without the initial - and get back to me on that. I've had one particular
pet kook for over a dozen years now.

I've had death threats, rape threats, my home phone number posted. I've
been accused of cock-teasing, stalking, embezzlement (in an attempt to
interfere with my RL livelihood) and incest as well as the standard "I
don't agree with you on usenet" accusations of pedophilia-supporting.
I've been called at work and called at home (by people I didn't give the
number to). I've had Mystery Packages (sent by the kooks) arrive at my
door. I had to warn my parents (because we have an unusual last
name, and they lived near one of the kooks) to let me know if they got a
lot of harassing phone calls because these kooks thought that
non-involved family members were fair game. (Can we say "no boundaries"?
I knew you could.)

I'm here to tell you that the only way you can win, and the newsgroup can
get better on-track as a Place to Talk About Food, is to not play the
game of Getting into a Rumble on Usenet.

If you want to vent, or want support - your friends have email, don't
they? (I also had phone numbers, so I could let off steam in real time.)

And when someone pulls something as stupid as this proposed "outing", I
suggest a dignified silence. If people are pointing and laughing at the
kook, you don't need to say a thing .

The truly insane will attempt to escalate, but it also becomes more and
more obvious to all that they are truly insane.

>Perhaps you could killfine us both

I am not going to enable your lack of self-control. I will tell you,
based on my long experience, that you are doing it the Wrong Way. I
learned this the hard way when I was first on usenet. (And there were
people telling me pretty much the same thing then .

People do this kind of shit because they want attention, want a fight.
Don't play to their script because when you do, nobody wins but the troll.
You lose, and the newsgroup loses.

There were times when I had to keep repeating "Anyone who believes this
crap is not someone I want to know anyway" and times when I had to call a
friend to encourage me to continue sitting on my hands (e.g. not hitting
reply).

If you can't POST ABOUT FOOD I suggest you unsubscribe until you can. I
will also suggest the following compromise - at least two posts full of
food content for each one where you get sucked into the drama. (That
was what I did when I was in recovery from getting totally sucked into
the drama.) Post some recipes or something . Don't mention the kook. It
really ****es them off .

ObFood: mini-quiche recipe later.

I wish I had a kook that persistent. Nobody loves me any more
<sniff, sniff>.

Heck, I was stalking you there for a while, too! I was at Wits
End and almost gave up until I saw your name on the internal
company directory! ;-)

I used to use my full name for decades on Usenet until I was the
victim of a violent crime (not Usenet related, amazingly). The
culprit is still in jail, sentencing (or trial) is next week.
It's doubtful the crackhead knows how to type, but still - I'd
rather not have him learn to stalk.

Fortunately (not for him) there's at least 2 Steve W's in Austin.
I've even spoken with the other one a few times. He left a
message on the voicemail at work one morning, not knowing my
name, asking us to do some work for him. I had to listen to the
message a few times - like - is this a joke? Who the hell is
this Steve Wertz?

You can have mine. At least the ones that the Feds don't want to talk
with first (and, no, I am not making that up).

Understandable. I'm considering changing my header. I'm sort of easy to
find (unusual name and home owner, e.g., if anyone wants to pay for a
public records search).

(Sorry to hear about it, btw.)

Trippy!

I'm related to the other person I know with my name. (I guess I was
supposed to have a different last name by now, but that's not how it
worked out.) There's a reason I use that initial .

ObFood: she's a jolly good cook, too. People all but fall over
themselves for her peanut-butter cup cookies and lemon curd.

This sounds like fun! Also the farmer's market. The drought is closing many
of NC's, very sad. Raleigh's farmer's market is overpriced for the quality,
so not much fun.

You're not cowardly, you're smart. They don't call it freaknet for nothing.
Happily, there are better anti-electronic stalking laws now than there were
12 years ago.

I, probably like most of us, sometimes encounter Usenet real-name bigots.
I ended up devoting a page at Blinkynet to this:

But you don't need to defend yourself. Her behavior speaks for
itself, and you just smear yourself with her goo if you respond.

ObFood: I went to a diner with Guy today. He had grilled cheese; I
had a burger and a milkshake, and the thickest cream of broccoli
soup I've ever had.

Good site Blinky. A few people need to read that. I would like to see
