Hello, All!
Both fresh and dried fruits can be very good but, in discussion with a friend, it came out that we both preferred dried figs to fresh. Other dried fruits are pretty good too, like Trader Joes' Fruit Trail Mix (no nuts). It is also so hard to buy a perfectly ripened pear in the US that I think I prefer canned pears. I know "gourmet" suppliers can sometimes provide acceptable pears but they cost an arm and a leg! If I am buying fresh pears, I have found Seckel pears to be most satisfactory since they are very edible when quite firm and thus travel well.
