Bought a 10 bag of baking russets and today I decided to bake some...
what a surprise to look in the bag and find such perfect monsters,
these are the smallest and weigh over a pound each: http://i31.tinypic.com/28ionpz.jpg

I will report back tonight, they're in the oven baking now... sorry to
hear about your spudiophelia. hehe

Right now my dilemma is what will I do with six pounds of baked
potato, and my cats won't eat any, and I'll be lucky to eat half of
one with dinner tonight. I'm thinking baked potato salad.

Here's a suggestion for all those baked potatoes. I haven't tried this
recipe yet, and it looks so good! It's a recipe for 'baked potato &
leek soup with cheddar & bacon'. Here's the link:

Probably tastey but with all that dairy (and bacon) I think a bit high
on the fat richter scale. Thank you.

That's 1) why it looks so good and 2) why I haven't made it yet ;>
Perhaps someday. Although, when I priced leeks the other day (mind,
leeks is something I very rarely buy), I was rather shocked to see they
were $4.99/lb for the leeks!

You can get by substituting a bunch of green oniions.

Btw, my giant spuds turned out perfect, I could only eat half of
one. I actually like cold baked potatoes, nice diced and tossed with
plain yogurt and fresh herbs, dillweed is nice.

That happens occasionally no matter where you buy produce. Too many
variables in growing to guarantee a consistent product.

Definitely- especially when you're buying in huge amounts like these
guys do...
