BTW, anyone else bothered by the fact that they are using a slightly-modified industrial lubricant in almost everything we eat nowadays? And that in its natural form it's deadly? What if someone unethical were to use the wrong plant to make oil... I try not to think about it too much... |

Why would one be concerned that a food product also had benefit as an "industrial lubricant?" Also, the plant that is used for its production of the food oil (usually called Canola) was created by cross cultivating other plants, one of which, as you suggest, is toxic. But, if that is of concern to you, I would hope that you do not eat tomatoes. (They are nightshades, you know.)<g> All the best, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS." |

Not particularly. It's been selectively bred to reduce the erucic acid content to a level that's safe for humans. Lots of food plants are dangerous in their unmodified form. Don't believe me? Eat some raw cassava root or red kidney beans some day. > What if someone > unethical were to use the wrong plant to make oil... I try not to > think about it too much... I'm sure there are testing protocols in place to make sure the erucic acid content is at safe levels. Miche -- Electricians do it in three phases |
