Recently I was visiting a small town in Arizona, and when I walked
past the beer case in a grocery store I noticed quite a few six packs of Clamato Juice positioned in front of the beer. I thought it was strange because where I live you might find six cans on the shelt at the most. Then I was in a grocery store in Tucson, and I noticed that Budweiser was selling beer that appeared to be a mixture of Clamato Juice, and beer. Is this a drink that is just popular in Arizona, or is it a trend that I have missed? Thanks Tom |

I couldn't even finish it. It didn't even taste like Clamato. And if it was my last beer and I couldn't finish it, then it's *really* bad. Clamato has done some co-branding on some other stuff and all of it tasted like crap, IMO. For example, they had a tortilla chip seasoning that would have been good, but then they put it on these god awful tortilla chips that tasted like cardboard. The Miller michelada is much better, but still not good, IMO. It's citrus-based instead of tomato-based. -sw |

My biggest problem with these things is I can't imagine drinking an American mass-produced beer watered down to have less alcohol content and taste than it already doesn't have to begin with. If somebody were to invent a *decent* beer, mixed with spicy bloody Mary (or bloody Caesar), then I'd certainly try that with gusto (and an extra shot of vodka). -sw |

And now that I think about it, practically all of the mass-produced beers in the USA can benefit from the addition of some V8 to make them less impalatable! Usually just called a beer and juice for the tomato version or beer and clamato for the clamato version...A vodka and clamato drink called a Ceasar is also quite popular and tasty too. Ceasars are more popular up here than Bloody Marys are down there...and have probably as many recipes for making one. With the usual ingredients and ratios. Including the celery salt rimmed glasses. Ceasar Garnishes can be celery stick, dill pickle wedge, pickled asparagus spear or even pickled green bean. But next year I will hopefully have lovage growing and that will serve in my Ceasars as stir stick, straw plus garnish. -- The house of the burning beet-Alan A man in line at the bank kept falling over...when he got to a teller he asked for his balance. |

(Our first year here was pretty much a blur, since we mainly spent that time taking care of newborn twins and a 3.5 yo...) Nice people and good food to be found (although I wish there were more farmers markets nearby). DH is a Hopkins alum and got to know the city pretty well during his college years. We'd always flown into Baltimore from Houston to visit family in PA and NJ over the years and thought that this area would be the perfect place to live, should the opportunity ever arise. Mary, I lived in the suburbs of Houston (The Woodlands, Conroe), and I also miss the variety of restaurants and the availability of specialty foods that are sold in markets. There are no traffic jams on the freeways where I live in Louisiana, and the restaurants are pretty good, but we do not have the variety, that we had in Houston. I am back in Louisiana, living near my family, and that means a lot. Becca |
