Default Ping Blinky: I fixed the map.

Blinky,

I found the problem. I had checked something else...and as soon as I
unchecked that, it was fixed. So play away...it seems to be working
fine now.

And now the instruction "click on map to add a marker" has returned,
not surprisingly.

Tired of fscking around with this, I just used a stock avatar. I notice
that the alleged user-edit-for-one-hour capability doesn't seem to be
present; I trust that was the last thing you disabled, as mentioned above
(which made it again possible to drop a marker at all), right?

Nope. What I had disabled by mistake, what the ability for folks to
add themselves. Once I fixed that, anyone could add themselves.

I added back the rest of the stuff, like the street address search,
and the ability to edit/delete your marker, for one hour. And it was
still working just fine when I went to bed.

So your theory doesn't hold water..

Christine

You can upload jpgs to it, which many of us have done in lieu of the
stock avatars. Have you tried that? Then you could use whatever you
wanted...

I don't need to remove your marker anymore. You can do that yourself,
within the time frame. And there is a caption there to edit it.

If you are looking at the list of names, you won't see the edit
caption, but if you click on your marker in that new listing, then it
will open up the map, and you will see both choices: to edit, or to
delete.

I just tried this..going through the interface at the website..and it
is working beautifully. I put in a new address for me (actually an
old one) and then opened up the list. I saw the marker that was
added, and I clicked on that. It opened up the map...and I saw my
marker highlighted with my chosen caption on it, as well as the
choices for editing and deleting.

Maybe someone else can try this, to make sure it is working for them.

Ah, well, yeah, that would explain why I couldn't add myself for those
hours last night that we worked on this.

Nor does the edit feature - here. I added my marker and immediately
tried to see a way to edit it. In vain. My settling for a stock image
was a good decision, since again I couldn't have experimented with a
custom image for lack of editing ability.

See if this rings a bell: I did that, and it was truncated. Months ago.
that's why I asked you several times to remove me so I could use an image
that worked.

Rather than use another custom image and have it hosed again, today I just
used a stock one, so that there was no need for you to remove my marker
again (since I find no way to edit what's there).

Could you possibly delete my old (Sarah Bennett in metro detroit) one?

I added a new one with my new name and location.
