Long grain sounds like it might be better.

I don't have my recipe handy, but IMO, short grain rice is the way to go. It
makes a much creamier pudding. You can even use arboria rice.

Short grain's even better. Here's one I posted a few years ago. You
don't need arborio rice for it -- any short grain rice will do.
