Title: Canadian Nanaimo Bars Recipe By: Category: Bars Main Ingredient: Cuisine Style: Yield: 1 Serving Preparation Time: 0:00 Cooking Time: 0:00 [Amount] [Measure] [Ingredient (or Header)] -- [Preparation] ---------- ------------ ---------------------------------------------- 5 tbsp Cocoa 1/2 cup Butter 1/4 cup White sugar 1 Egg 1/2 tsp Vanilla 2 cup Graham wafer crumbs *********************** ************* MMMMM FILLING ************ *********************** 1 1/4 cup Icing sugar 1/2 cup Butter 3 tbsp Custard (Birds) Milk *********************** ************* MMMMM ICING ************ *********************** 3 oz Semi-sweet chocolate 2 tbsp Butter 2 drop Vanilla [Preparation] In a large saucepan melt the butter and stir in the cocoa and sugar. Add 1 beaten egg with the vanilla to the melted butter. Add the 2 cups of "Graham" wafers and mix well. Press this mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 9*9 inch pan. Place in the refrigerator. FILLING: Beat together icing sugar, butter, and custard. Add a little milk if needed to make a smooth dough. Spread on first layer and return to the refrigerator. TOPPING: Melt chocolate, butter and vanilla in a saucepan. Work quickly to get a smooth even layer. Return to the refrigerator to set. Cut into bars. Refrigerate. Or if you prefer and don't have time to whip this up, "Costco" has an excellent bakery department and their "Nanaimo" bars are.......well you know, once you have one bite....can't believe I ate the whole thing! Sorry, but there is no such thing as a good Nanaimo bar from Costco or any other grocery store. I was raised on the real McCoy. My mother used to make Naniamo bars at least once a month. They were incredible, but sinfully rich. One was never enough, and two was one too many. |
